I took my daughter to a Mollen clinic in a WalMart in October 2009 to receive a flu shot.  I was assured our insurance (BLUE CROSS) would pay for the shot so I decided to just do it right there rather than take her to her pediatrician.  In  June, 2010, I receive a bill from Mollen saying no, your insurance doesn't pay after all.  Rather than debating this issue as it was an obvious ploy to get me to recieve the flu shot - I just paid the $30 due.

Six weeks later, I receive another bill. This one was for $28.00 and I could not find a record of paying $28.00 to them so figured I must not have paid it.  A couple weeks later I find the cancelled check for the initial payment and call Mollen.  This was August 9, 2010 and I was told yes, I was due a $30 refund and they would get that right out to me.  On August 31, 2010 I called again and was told oops - we forgot to send it!  We'll send it right out.

Now it's October 1, and no refund.  I spoke to Caroleen this morning and was told the refunds are very much backed up and only one woman issues them.  No one knows how to access her records and she doesn't come into work until 10:00 am.  Must be nice to have a job with no accounatability eh?

Filled Out Correctly

I complete forms for a living so yes - it was completed correctly. Also, the assistant there verified my insurance - using my card- BEFORE any shots were given.  Only afterwards was the insurance denied - not for filling out a form incorrectly but because it's not accepted by Mollen.

So, yes - it was a complete scam to get us to get the immunizations there and secondly, the double billing and slow refund are also issues that are unacceptable.  We will never go back and hope this warns others to avoid Mollen!

From the information you provide I wonder if you completed the Client information section correctly?

Very often Credit card or debt card information is required from clients when recieving immunizations from Mollen.  Not all insurances are the same.  I have asked numerous clients what their insurance is when they approach the shot dest.  I am told Medicare and then when I see their insurance card low and behold it is SecureHorizons or AARP MedicareComplete.  So then I have to provide them a different form.  Many insurances have deductables.  Did yours?

Mollen provides every nurse and ccp with a list of insurances that need credit card or debt card information be provided so your type of situation does not occur.  BC BS has required a credit card/debt card for at least the last 2 years.

Sorry for your situtation but I wonder if the claim form was properly filled out?  I have had clients just come up to the desk and grab a form and not wait for me to provide instructions.
