My husband and I wanted a home security system installed in our new home and was contacted by a company that used Monitronics as their security monitoring service.

We signed a contract that required us to subscribe to the service for 2 years with a monthly payment plan. In October 2002, my husband received orders to go overseas so we put our house up for sale and sold it.

December 5, 2002, I called Monitronics, Int'l and told them we sold our house and wished to cancel our service. I was informed to mail a letter requesting cancellation. The letter was mailed on December 6, 2002. Our contract didn't end until March 31, 2003 so I continued to pay the monthly fee.

I called again in the first part of February 2003 to make sure that everything was in order for the service to be cancelled. Their representative told me they had no record of the cancellation request. I had called and sent written request exactly as I was told to do by their representative.

Again on February 5, 2003, I mailed another letter, certified to their company. After I received my return reciept, I called Monotronics, Int'l again and they still said they had no record of the letter. By this time, it was within their "30 days" period to request cancellation.

I spoke with several people over the phone that were so called "supervisors" and at one point was told that everything was taken care of and that we were cancelled. At that point, I thought everything was taken care of, just as the woman had said.

Here it is July, 2003 and I received a bill in the mail for April 2003 - July 2003 monitoring service that states I am in default and they are going to take necessary action to collect this debt.

Now I am told that there is nothing they can do. I am stuck in the contract for yet another year! I have repeatedly faxed my copies of the letters, the delivery receipt, and copies of orders from US Military requiring us to move and they will do nothing for us.
