In December 2006, a monthly charge of $7.25 plus $.36 tax appeared on my AT&T phone bill for 'voice message monthly fee'. AT&T showed that the billing was provided as a service to the company identified, which was MyTeleBill, LLC. An "888" number was provided if there were any questions about the charge.

Unfortunately, these charges were at the very end of the phone bill and I did not notice them until July 2008. By that time, the monthly charge had been increased in February 2008 to $8.00 plus $.40 tax. I then sought to learn what these charges were for as I have a telephone answering machine in my residence and have not had the need for a voice message service.

After several futile attempts to speak to anyone at MyTeleBill and several messages left requesting that I be contacted, I called AT&T and asked them to block any further charges. They said that they would put a cancellation through and would refund charges for May and June 2008. They said that they could not go back any farther and suggested that I continue to attempt to deal with MyTeleBill.

After more calls, I finally was able to speak to a customer service representative at MyTeleBill. She said that my account had been cancelled on 3 July 2008. I told her that I did not request the service and she said that it had been requested by my wife via the Internet. I told her that I would like a refund of the total amount paid as I did not request the service and have never used it. She said that she could not do that and that it would have to be authorized by her supervisor and that he would contact me. I have not received a call from the supervisor.

Based on what has been written about MyTeleBill by others who apparently been victimized by this company, they collected names and phone numbers from surveys that were conducted online and then entered charges against the consumer's phone bill. I at no time received any communication from MyTeleBill telling me that service had been started or giving instructions for its' use. Nor was I notified when the monthly charges were to be increased.
