This is a warning about Nair wax hair remover.

I tried this product on the left side of my upper lip, the only place where I prefer not to use a Tweezer. (I don't have hair on the right side, for some reason.) I read the label before purchasing. It said, Not recommended for the elderly or those with loose skin.

At 55, I hardly consider myself elderly, and figured loose skin meant the hanging, fly in the breeze type of upper arms we see on 80 year olds. I hardly fit that description either. So I figured I was safe.

WRONG! It really needs to say, Harmful to women who have started menopause. It MAY even be harmful to younger women, for all I know. I've never used it before.

When I removed the wax, I was horrified to see that my upper lip, on the left side only, had stretched a ridiculous amount, and I looked like Donald Duck. I also had more vertical wrinkles than this year's Christmas tree with last year's hanging tinsel.

I sent the company an angry email, telling them I thought they owed me for surgery to restore my face to it's previous condition.

I got a polite answer, telling me that since the label clearly said, not recommended for the elderly or those with loose skin, they were not responsible.

Personally, I disagree. Their writing was very unclear, for the above stated reasons. Legally, unclear writing is always interpreted against the writer, so I think they are legally responsible for their failure to communicate how that product can affect menopausal, and possibly younger, women.

The only Nair product I ever used before was the cream. I had no visual problem with it, but did smell like rotten eggs afterwards. That was why I started to use razors on my legs, and tweezers on my face.

Maybe the wax affects young women the same way. Maybe the warning needs to say that all users risk permanent disfigurement because their skin will be permanently stretched beyond recognition.

The writer also said they have a customer satisfaction policy, so would mail me a refund check. They did. It was stamped on the back, in very faded, almost impossible to read ink, Endorsing this check constitutes a release of liability and agreement to take no further action against the Nair company.

In other words, it wasn't a customer satisfaction policy. It was an attempt to bribe me into not taking legal action for $5.00.

I don't THINK so.

So I sent the check back, with a note saying, This is not evidence of a real customer satisfaction policy. It is an attempted bribe. If you really believe in a money back guarantee, you'll mail me a check with no such stamp on it. I'll bet you don't.

They didn't.
