Recently I flew to Texas to purchase a puppy I had found on zwergteckelslimited.com. I had spoken to the breeder (Nancy Gandy) several times over the phone and selected my puppy on-line. I paid my $100 deposit and a week later flew from California to pick her up where I paid the remaining $425. When I got the puppy she looked different from the one I had chosed on-line but I was assured by Nancy that she was the same only "she had grown into her features".

Of course the puppy was too cute to refuse so I took her back to California with me. I immediately took her to the vet to have her checked out since she had vomited on the plane ride home (I thought maybe it was just nerves). But, it turned out to be parvo. I had never had a dog with parvo so I did not know what to expect.

The vet sat us down and explained that even with the most intense (and expensive) treatment there was still on 50/50 chance of survival. I couldn't risk this puppies life so I went on to pay $370 for 2 days of hospitalization care including IV, medication, overnight stay, etc.

While I left my new little baby with the vet I called Nancy Gandy to let her know what had happened. She pretended to have no knowledge of her being sick and claimed she had never shown any signs of sickness. The vet assures me she was lying because the puppy was in her final stages and could not have been healthy one day and dead the next. I let her know that I had chosen to pay for her stay at the vet and she offered to split the cost (although never offered to refund my money for the puppy).

Two days later the vet called me at 3am letting me know that she had passed... Although she had begun to feel better and started to eat, she also began having seizures. The final one killing her.

I called Nancy this time in tears and upset that even getting my money back wouldn't take away the pain of losing a sweet little puppy because of a careless breeder. She said another of her puppies had started to show symptoms and she would refund my $525 for the puppy plus half the vet costs. It has been a month and a half now and I HAVE NOT SEEN A DIME. More than anything I am worried that this woman has a litter (or more) full of parvo infected puppies and she isn't going to give them the $300 treatment each... so what happened to them??

I really wish I could sue her or put her in jail for the inhumane treatment of animals...

Vet Check

#2Consumer Suggestion

It is the responsibility of all dog owners to ensure that the animal has been checked by a vet when they buy it. It is the responsibility of the breeder to provide information retaining to the animals health. With Parvo, it easily transmitted to puppies and therefore can be hard to control and cannot be anticipated. I have two dogs and bought one from zwergteckels. This owner is a family type owner who deeply cares for all her animals. My animal is healthy and has no issues. Unfortunately, this can happen to anyone. It is truly a tragedy that this happened to you. Make sure in the future, especially when purchasing an animal from so far away to have a contract agreeable to both parties and there is information on what to do in case of a similar health problem.

and you crossed state lines with that dog. You need to be reporting her to her breeder's association, the TX State Vet and your State Vet. Forward copies of your puppy's medical records along with your complaint. Contact the government office of the town where she is located (or county) and tell them that she has Parvo at her place of business.
