I wish I had seen this site last week. Last Friday, I received a call from NHCD recruiting. The girl I spoke with told me there was a $74.00 "security deposit" and I would get it back in five weeks as long as I showed a reasonable effort. Later, I found out it was 500 leads to get a refund.

She went on to tell me how I would be calling people to "introduce them to the company". She said no sales!!! I have worked for one day and if this isn't sales I don't know what is. I was given a script to read and had to gather information from the potential customer. One question was about how they pay for their medicine, by checking account or credit card, personally I feel that is private information and is really no ones business but their own. I don't think I can continue to do this job.

I feel ashamed calling these senior citizens, who haven't asked me to call them with this information and then ask them intrusive questions. It's also a job that requires lots of self esteem because people will talk ugly to you or hang up on you, no matter how nice you are trying to be, but I don't blame them. If I were in their shoes I would do the same thing if someone from NHCD called me.

NEVER PAY TO WORK FROM HOME

Dear Shauna, As you stated you are not making money and staying in your pj Yes you have not heard the dirt. Being that you have the time to do little maybe you should educate yourself with other responses on this web site. Unlike yourself we are single mom trying to support our family and until you walk in our shoes stay home and watch tv I wish I could do that. Facts are they pay to be with the better business and they do have complains but you have to pay to see that. That you are not promoted as stated. It is a pyramid and you don't make a full time salary for 6 months yet you work a full time job + and make a part time salary and that is questionable as no one stays that long. The discount card they sell the seniors is free if they ask their pharmacy and a final note that access number you paid $74.00 for is a free access as I am sure you see Carrot Top on tv advertising this option 1010 plus the number you are dialing. They pay nothing. Maybe you can call at least 4000 numbers just to secure this money back. try getting it back as no one calls you back. P.S As for the interview you are hired no matter what if you have $74.00 dollars NEVER PAY FOR A JOB

I've only worked for NHCD for a few weeks, but I haven't contacted many seniors - mostly businesses (I'm assuming to get around the do-not-call list?) And the ones that I have contacted haven't been interested anyway. Like I said, I haven't been here long. Maybe there's some inside dirt that I just haven't seen yet, but I'm happy with this company. I didn't go in expected a full-time career, or planning on making big bucks. I'm lucky enough to have a husband that makes enough for the both of us, so this job is just something to help fill my days and give me a little play money. If I wanted to make money, I'd get a job. If I wasn't comfortable cold calling I'd find something different (and, yes,you have to be comfortable in dealing with some incredibly rude people...really, what's wrong with a polite, no thanks? You can hang up right after that and I won't be offended! You don't need to scream at me, lie to me, or call me an idiot!) The basic fact of the matter is that there aren't a whole lot of jobs that let you work in your pjs. And those other "legitimate" places (never worked for them, so I can't say either way)? Umm...still waiting to be contacted weeks later. Meanwhile, I'm working a couple hours a day, not being bored, and making a little extra cash. I think I can deal with that.

"I have read several complaints on this board and have noticed that over the last year the complaints havent really been about being ripped off, but rather just complaints about working for the company."~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~yes, the complaints are that, they're getting ripped off by working for the company. Not receiving the phone deposit back after fulfilling the contacts, or being shorted on pay for a lesser number of hours worked is considered a rip off. "From what I have read, it seems NHCD has made some attempts to change it's practices as far as the security deposit is concerned." and, "The one thing it does not tell you is that if you do not want to work for this company, do not sign the contract. Call back the representative that hired you and cancel. They wait 72 hours to process all security deposits incase you change your mind."~~~~~~~~~~~~~2 birds with one stone on this one~ They've had to change their practices, she's correct. Prime example? The telephone solicitation laws. NHCD recently started holding your phone deposit, as stated, 'in case you change your mind'. True, but they had the alterior motive of trying to cover their asses because of so many complaints, and they're now trying to comply with the new state laws in order to cut down on consumer complaints, whether from employees or those who actually buy into the program. "I guess what it comes down to is simply are you comfortable telemarketing? If yes this job is for you. If no then find something else. This company is not the only one offering this savings program. There are other companies charging more and there are other companies doing it for free."~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~You have to hand it to Jen for being up front on this one~ and NHCD would skin her alive if they saw the 'telemarketing' reference. "Alot of individuals blame this company for their failures because they can not deal with the fact that it is them, as an individual that has failed themself. It takes a very strong person to look at themself and not only see, but admit they do not have what it takes to be successful at a job they thought would be easy to do, Due to personal emotions or feelings."~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~this is where she lost me a little~ Even strong willed, confident people get ripped off by NHCD. Implying that someone is evidently too weak, too sensitive, etc., because they didn't stick with this job is kind of a transparent excuse. NO ONE likes being ripped off, whether they're Joan of Arc or Joan of Wussland~ NHCD doesn't discriminate when it comes to not keeping up their part of the bargain. "To me generating interest does mean cold calling. Indeed we did have to ask if people paid with their medicines with a check or credit card, but this is a yes or no question. I did not see it as intrusive."~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Jen's on it as far as cold calling~ good for her on that one...............but....... .........would you find it offensive if I called you, claiming to work for a new shoe store opening up in your area, I ask you a few 'survey' questions, and out of the blue, ask, "Do you wear thongs or granny pants?" You'd be like, 'wtf??????????????? That's NONE of your business, and what's this have to do with shoes?!?!' Well, keep in mind, that older folks don't like talking about their money, and to them, asking about their personal payment methods of choice, are just as appalling to them as the above, and when someone asks you out of the blue, if you pay for your things with a check or a credit card, if they're smart, that's a red flag being waved at full staff. It's only your business if you're in their will. "The only thing I can suggest to anyone thinking about working for this company is to make sure the person offering you the job is honest with you."~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~the kicker? They're 'not' being honest right out of the gate whatsoever when they say to you, from the script, mind you~ "I think you have a great personality and that you'd be a GRRRRRREAT asset to this company!", knowing d**n well that regardless, they're going to hire you because they want that 10 bucks. And you think you've just been hired into a great company.................until, YOU get the script, and realize, 'hey.................I was told this when they hired ME!' and then within your head...........it clicks. And she's right about this, man. "Read the employment contract before you take a job with them, read it in it's entirety, It is written in plain english. However, if you are confused by it, ask questions. NHCD has the contract posted right on their website." And then run, run like the wind away from it~

#8UPDATE EX-employee responds

Sun, April 25, 2004

I am a former "employee" of NHCD. I started with the company in November 2003 and very recently quit, due to the fact that I will be moving out of the country in the next several weeks. (One of the fun things about being a military wife) I have read several complaints on this board and have noticed that over the last year the complaints havent really been about being ripped off, but rather just complaints about working for the company. From what I have read, it seems NHCD has made some attempts to change it's practices as far as the security deposit is concerned. When I was telephoned interviewed I was asked before the interview started if I was comfortable making outbound calls. I was also told that when I started I would need to call a list of numbers that the company provided to me and generate interest in the prescription program. To me generating interest does mean cold calling. Indeed we did have to ask if people paid with their medicines with a check or credit card, but this is a yes or no question. I did not see it as intrusive. I guess what it comes down to is simply are you comfortable telemarketing? If yes this job is for you. If no then find something else. This company is not the only one offering this savings program. There are other companies charging more and there are other companies doing it for free. Before you start working for this company, before you get your training manual, they have you fill out an employment contract. I do not know about anyone else, but I read everything in full before I sign in, whether it be by hand or digitally. Their contract states everything up front. Even about the 500 contacts. The one thing it does not tell you is that if you do not want to work for this company, do not sign the contract. Call back the representative that hired you and cancel. They wait 72 hours to process all security deposits incase you change your mind. However, Once you sign the contract, It does legally bind you to 5 weeks & 500 contacts. There is no mistake the jobs this company offers is not for everyone. If you are a person that tends to take rejection personally, or a person that can not motivate yourself to work independently, this company is not for you. Alot of individuals blame this company for their failures because they can not deal with the fact that it is them, as an individual that has failed themself. It takes a very strong person to look at themself and not only see, but admit they do not have what it takes to be successful at a job they thought would be easy to do, Due to personal emotions or feelings. Paycheck issue, it does take them 2 weeks to send you your first paycheck. This is stated in the employment contract. "we do hold back the first two weeks pay" to me means you get your first paycheck at the end of your 3rd week it also states they do not send out checks for less then $20 so if your first week you only had 6 leads.. that $18 would be added to your paycheck for the following week, Your first paycheck would be 4 weeks after you started. This is why it is so important to keep records, and ask when the pay period starts and begins. The only thing I can suggest to anyone thinking about working for this company is to make sure the person offering you the job is honest with you. Read the employment contract before you take a job with them, read it in it's entirety, It is written in plain english. However, if you are confused by it, ask questions. NHCD has the contract posted right on their website.
