I was contacted by NRA, the caller did not identify herself and simply said "We came across your resume online and would like to have you come in for an interview". Naturally, I asked questions and was told that NRA is staffing firm that helps the unemployed find placement. I asked how the firm is compensated for their efforts and was told that the hiring employer pays a fee. I stated clearly that I am not interested in any fee based service and would only be willing to discuss their services further if either there is no cost to me or there is not a fee until I am placed. She re-stated that the employer pays the fee.

I went on the first appointment and was treated as if I was an unqualified applicant. The representative that I met with explained that my resume is all wrong and needs alot of work (although my resume was designed and written by a professional placement service offered through the employer that laid me off). She concluded that my credentials and skill would be reviewed and I would be contacted once they determine my potential as a client because "they cant help everyone". It sounded like a weak wind up for a sales pitch.

I was contacted to come in the next week to meet with a "professional in my field" who will clearly define where I am in my career, what I'm looking for and a strategy to achieve it. When I came in, i was sat down for more than a hour listening to a pitch about how bad the market, how only 25% of the available jobs in the market are posted on job boards and then told that they can help me find placement quickly for a fee of $3500.00 for 1 year of their service or $4500.00 for 2 years.

I find it despicable that a company would prey on the unemployed and waste valuable time and resources with the job market and economy in the state that it is currently in.
