In a recent episode about cellulite, Dr. Oz revealed that creams with caffeine and retinol can effectively reduce the appearance of cellulite. Since the airing of the episode, a slew of cellulite creams have emerged, all claiming to contain this magical combination. However, many of these creams DO NOT contain retinol - but instead contain retinyl palmitate, an alternate form of Vitamin A known to cause cancer. Naturalico Cellulite Cream is one such product being sold on Amazon.com that contains this dangerous alternative form.
- Retinol vs. Retinyl Palmitate
Although both Retinyl Palmitate and Retinol are forms of Vitamin A, structurally and functionally they are entirely different ingredients. Retinol is the pure form of Vitamin A that stimulates cell turnover and accelerated collagen fiber growth. Retinyl palmitate (a much cheaper ingredient) is an ester (chemical compound) formed from the reaction of retinol and palmitic acid. Many studies have found that Retinyl Palmitate encourages the formation of malignant, potentially cancer-causing cells in the skin.
Due to these findings, the EWG (a non-profit organization) issued a statement recommending manufacturers of cosmetics, sunscreens, and other personal care products remove retinyl palmitate from all products to be used on sun-exposed skin, and that consumers avoid buying products that contain this chemical. By using an ingredient known to potentially cause cancer without any warning to buyers, Naturalico is not only guilty of false advertising, but is also recklessly and negligently placing innocent buyers in danger.
Below is a list of cellulite creams that also use retinyl palmitate in lieu of retinol. Notice the long names, many of which specifically state the two ingredients "Caffeine and Retinol" suggested by Dr OZ.

Thank you for bringing the Retinyl Palmitate information to our attention.
We have investigated this claim with our science team and will have pure Retinol replacing the Retinyl Palmitate and will be available inside the next 3-4 weeks.
We are uncertain as to how valid the claims regarding retinyl Palmitate being a carcinogen and we will continue to investigate this further and communicate with the FDA regarding this matter moving forward.
