Less than a year ago the PA Attorney General sanctioned and assessed NCO $300,000.00, so this is still fresh on their minds. he history in each and every state is horrendous of this companies bad behavior. Just do a web search. This companies knows this and it appears when a consumer stands up for their rights they most of the time tuck tail and run. What they count on in their profit margin are the people who don't fight for their rights! Contact The PA Attorney General's Office Web Site, they have a venue to file a Complaint Online! The more complaint's the Attorney General Receives the more he will be forced once again to re-visit this issue that obviously NCO found to be less than important in their promises to change their business practices to the State of PA. You can also file a complaint with the Attorney General's Office of your State.

Check your rights under the FDCPA. That will tell you whom they can call, what they can say, etc. You can Google Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and find the whole thing. Also, check budhibbs.com as he has a great deal of information. One question I have to the Canadian gentleman: Why do you assume the original poster is trying to get out of paying a debt? He said nothing about any such thing. In fact, NCO is looking for his wife (ex-wife, maybe?). Considering NCO's reputation for illegal debt collection practices or not checking to see if they have the right person or if there is even a legitimate debt, it seems premature and presumptuous to assume that this person is trying to get out of paying anything.

From state to state the rules change, but none state we can not contact people we know are not you "for sure". If you can not be contacted through the information you provided as a collection agency NCO can contact "possible contact numbers" to locate you. If you don't want them to do that then pay the debt you owe. Simple as that. You have your job to do, so do they.

They more than likely started out on your city's website and went to the property appraisers page typed in the address that you were last reported at. Since you probably don't answer their calls or respond to their correspondence just checking to see if you still lived there. They probably pulled info from your credit application as well. The section where you were asked if you own or rent your house. They either got it there or called your local directory info for her number. You should feel free to complain to fair credit folks if Amy continues to contact your landlord since she has already determined you still live there. They will either continue to send collection notices or serve you with court papers. Thanks, Steve R. Jax, FL

Ignore tim he treats everybody like this, & tells them they have no vaild complaint, nco is the most hateful collection agencie out there I see they havent learned lesson. No, collection agencie is allowed to contact anyone about there dept. not to your employer, landlord, friends, family or anyone, if they do this you can sue them for slander. Tim, tells everybody they have no valid complaint nco cannot abuse u either into paying something u can't they will accuse u of everything, & bully u into paying when u don't have the money. Just, gather evidence & all the collection accounts they place on your credit file, & make complaints to the PA attorney general office & better business bureau & your state attorney general office. This is what helped get nco of my back.

If a collection agency that is trying to collect on a legitimate debt is having a hard time tracking you down, they are allowed, per the FDCPA, to contact people who may know how to get in touch with you. How they got your landlord's number is no great mystery, but I like to remain mysterious so I won't tell you how they did it. But if you were to give me your full name (don't do that - this is just a hypothetical), I could come back and tell you the names of everyone who lives with you, as well as the names, addresses, and phone numbers of your neighbors. Long and short - I don't see any legal violation in your report.
