Originally signed up for Net 10 and transfered my phone number from verizon. I'd had the same phone number for 11 years! Later, my phone was damaged so I bought a new one and called them to turn it on and transfer my number and minutes to the new phone. They transfered the minutes but failed to keep my number.

Just before I called their tech support, I called my old number and it still was going to my voicemail. Then I called them and asked them to give me my old number back and they said that number was no longer in their system. I disputed that point with them because I had JUST called the number and it was still going to my net10 voicemail. They put me on hold (apparently so they could delete the number from their system) and came back and told me it wasn't available. I then called my number again and, low-and-behold, it was disconnected.

My ticket number was 1006947261.

Apparently it is a pain in the butt for them to transfer a particular number to a person, rather than just assign them a random number. So they made sure they didn't have to do that by deleting my number from their system. And thus, I lost a phone number I'd had for over a decade and none of my old friends can reach me anymore.

Don't use Net10 if you want any security with your phone number.

Anytime a company deals with millions of customers, and has hundreds of customer service reps, they are going to get some bad apples. I got unlucky and dealt with a person who jacked me around. Net10/Tracfone has since done a very good job of getting my number back and following up. Since being with them, I've lost/damaged 4 phones and they've always been right on the ball with transferring my number and minutes (except for this one time which their guy really screwed up and they corrected). In reading most of the complaints on this site against them, most of the customers seem to be complaining that they lost minutes. Most of them are complaining about a loss of less than $20. C'mon people. Each month with Verizon I lost more than that in minutes that didn't roll over. And all the surcharges. For 15 years, the large cell phone companies have been ripping off people for hundreds and hundreds of dollars a year. Are you forgetting that, until there was competition, they were charging .50 cents a minute, PLUS $1.50 per minute if you went over your minutes, PLUS a 2 year contract?!? Basically the large wireless companies were built by abusing and defrauding their customers. I can't tell you how many times I got a $400 phone bill which they refused to negotiate. All in all, you should be happy there are companies like net10/tracfone (tracphone) that give these jerks some competition and only charge you for what you use.
