Only three years and two months prior to this date, 5 August 2009, we needed a new electric furnace. Our old one was burned out. We learned that, according to Ohio law, we were stuck with getting a mobile home furnace instead of a better- quality unit. Last week, the motor in this Nordyne electric "mobile home" furnace started spitting sparks and emitting an ozone smell. Of course we had to turn the integrated air conditioner off and we have not had cool air for over a week. Our furnace man came today, and replaced the motor; that was when we found out the furnace was no longer under warranty after only three years! In fact, there was only a one-year warranty on parts for the furnace.

Nordyne advertises a "commitment to quality" on their website. That isn't what _I_call it! We have been putting up with the obstreperous, noisy operation of this thing for those three years. It whined loudly in operation, and clicked, clacked, banged and clanged on turning on and off. The noise often overwhelmed the TV and we had to turn up the volume in order to hear the audio.

We just had to put out $299 for the repairs (service call, new motor, new capacitor, and new motor mounts), which we can ill afford right now. For the record, the new motor our repairman installed today is MUCH quieter than the original failed motor.

Nordyne Intertherm Broan Miller FIRE!!!!!

We had a fire! Our house was filled smoke! The electric module literally burned out, and there was an open flame on it until we turned the circuit breakers off and used our fire extinguisher to put out the flame that was catching in the woodwork around the furnace. Our furnace repairman came out the next day and repaired the wiring and he did not charge us a dime. Now that I am familiar with the "quality" of Nordyne products though (Intertherm, Miller, Broan, etc.), I won't make the mistake of buying another one!

Hi Joyce, I represent NORDYNE, the manufacturer of your furnace. We invite you to contact us regarding your furnace. You can reach us at 1-800-422-4328 Monday through Friday, 8 am 4:30 pm CST. Unfortunately, noise is not uncommon in manufactured housing. The ductwork can be restrictive, causing air flow noise, and the furnace is usually located close to a living area, allowing normal operating sounds to be heard. That is why we're concerned that the new quieter motor may not be a direct factory replacement, and may have caused your malfunction last night. We'd be happy to speak to you and help you find a qualified service technician. Not all technicians are familiar with furnaces for manufactured housing, and an improper install or repair can result in poor performance. We do pride ourselves on the quality of our products, and would like to work with you to discover the cause of the first failure and help remedy the second one.

Nordyne Intertherm Broan Miller FIRE!!!!!

This (un)lovely furnace just nearly set our house on fire, at 9:14 PM on 5 August 2009! There was an open flame in the plug-in module, and our house is full of stinking smoke! We took emergency action: turned the circuit breaker off before the fire could spread. We will NOT be buying another new furnace from ANY source sponsored by Nordyne EVER! Had we gone to bed early, as we usually do, we would have been dead by morning! As I said earlier, this machine is not what I call "quality:" far from it!
