North American Savings Bank, FSB Refinance Ripoff-They required prepayment on an appraisal then charged $500 straight to my credit card. Leawood Kansas
I was contacted by this company through lending tree. They assured me of the best rates all the way around. I specifically asked for each fee involved and compared across the board. They even gave it to me in writing so I agreed to the appraisal they vaguely said would be in the $400 range. They answered my calls promptly and the loan officer established rapport by talking about his new baby, etc. etc. I called for almost a week after the appraisal came in and got no response. Then I realized I'd been taken when my appraisal came in over the amount they said was the limit, but they refused my loan anyway. My credit card was charged an even $500 which they say is non-refundable. My loan officer is no longer with the company.
I thought because this was a well-known bank they wouldn't pull this stuff--plus they said they were the number one lender through lending tree because of their low rates. When I asked if I could hire my own appraiser they said that was obviously a conflict of interest. Killer thing is I just called the appraisal company and they said they'd do an appriasal on my house in my area on my acreage for $350 dollars. How about a $150 non-refundable processing fee? Nice. Do you really need to lie to get my money in this economy when every penny counts for me????? Was it worth the $150 bucks? I had to do everything but give you my first born and that was all just a ruse to get my ccard info. Nice.
