Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I opened a hair salon in February and after receiving phone call after phone call I finally gave in to getting a credit card terminal. I decided to go with Velocity Merchant Services.

Now let me point out that I am only 19 years old and hardly know how to even run a business, let alone anything to do with this credit card crap. Anyways, I didn't even know that I was going to be leasing it through a different company? I thought everything was through VMS.

Anyways, I do everything over the phone and through email and I printed out papers and signed them and faxed them to VMS, so I knew I was agreeing to lease the terminal at 34.99 per month and I don't even know how long it was for, the people "explained" this to me over the phone but it was all still very confusing to me. All I know is that they just charge me whatever they want and it comes out of my account, and then they always have a "reason" it's for this or that and it's stuff that I don't understand at all. I have never been charged 34.99, it's always much more than that.

I decided that since I hardly ever use the machine, I just think it would be best to get rid of it, they have screwed up my account so many times it's not even funny and I'm just sick of paying for it, so I contacted VMS and they said that all I needed to do was to send a letter in writing and they would close my account, then I asked about where to send the credit card terminal and they said that I needed to contact Northern Leasing since that's who I have my lease through?

So at this point I'm pretty confused but I still called Northern Leasing just to be greeted by a very rude employee that said that there is absolutely no way of getting rid of the thing early, the only thing I could do would be to pay the remaining 42 payments which comes out to be around 1500 plus another 200 fee of some sort. I just don't understand why I can't just get rid of it? I am willing to send it back to them and everything, I wish I would have researched this company a little bit before just jumping straight into this, but am I really going to be stuck with this thing??

CLOSE YOUR BANK ACCOUNT

Is your bank account still open? If so, why?

Open another bank account and close this one out. And tell them to go to hell.

I have decided to use a separate bank account for a merchant processor and each supplier - wamu, wachovia give free checking accounts. you can ask citibank to waive the monthly fee every year. they might do it.

As soon as the money comes into your account transfer it to your main account.

Always read the entire contract. Take your own time. Research on google and look for better deals.

Good Luck.

I had a similar experience with 2 companies. I've heard that you can actually just buy your own unit. I believe these companies prey on consumers who don't know what they are actually getting into. I was told they would "buy out" my other company's machine...but that never happened and I had to pay thousands of dollars on 2 leases! The old one and the new one! My recommendation for anyone looking to "lease" a credit card machine... DON'T DO IT! Best to look into taking only cash in your business, or buy your own terminal and get a bank to process your transactions! I've seen units for $200 on EBay... Do extensive research... which is hard if you are starting a new business, but trust me... don't make the same mistakes myself and others have made. I wish I would have known of this website back in 2002 when I got suckered into these slick sales tactics and all the lies just to get your to sign a lease. They all are in it for the money and could care less about you. Back then I even wrote to my Attorney general's office and they did not help one bit! Take it as a hard lesson learned... and for this and any other thing like it... if it sounds too good to be true... IT PROBABLY IS!!! Buyer Beware!! TO POTENTIAL LEASE SIGNERS... You CAN'T end your leases early or they WILL harass you til you turn blue in the face! These leases are so bad... have your lawyer look at them and explain it to you... Don't sign that day no matter what!!
