The SALES REP for the Trivia Pages indicated he is very happy with the company. OF COURSE HE IS! He is on commission (and per the ads on Northwest Publishing's site, the commission is quite substantial). Once a business signs up for an ad, and pays for it, the SALES REP is sitting fat and happy. What does he care if the company does not honor all the promises he made to the customers about the Trivia Pages being on display at the entry lobby or even on the tables at all those restaurants in town? What does he care if the person signing the contract did not pay attention to the fact that the contract only binds THE CUSTOMER to paying Northwest Publishing to print AN AD, and does not in any way mention that Northwest Publishing will ever ship those Trivia Pages to any restaurants at all, much less four times a year, or any of the other promises that were made. There is NO QUANTITY of Trivia Page ad publications mentioned in the CONTRACT. There is NO OBLIGATION TO SHIP Trivia pages to ANYONE in the contract, EVER. He doesn't care if the restaurants who do get a small box of 50 Trivia pages just toss that into the dumpster, because they never actually agreed to display the product, and possibly their franchise DOES NOT ALLOW this type of product in the restaurant! (The kind folks from Northwest Publishing pointed this out to me...they are SO HELPFUL!!). So yeah, the sales rep for Northwest Publishing that sells the Trivia Pages ads is very happy with the company. He should be. The company is making a HUGE profit, considering how many ads they sell per city coverage. And how little they actually print and ship.
The owners of this company were quick to point out that their CONTRACT, the ONE PAGE CONTRACT, was the ONLY binding agreement I had (I had made copies of the sales rep's sell sheets, which confirmed all the VERBAL promises that he had made). The wonderful folks at NW Publishing were quick to point out that those were NOT LEGALLY BINDING IN ANY WAY...only that ONE PAGE CONTRACT which obligates the business owner to pay NW PUBLISHING to print an ad (only AN ad, just one) is binding. These guys take being jerks and ripoff artists to a whole new level, as they continue to push this scheme year after year.

Looking at this, it is hard to determine what happened here. How were the businesses affected? It sounds as if Northwest Publishing printed some ads in your community and some people did not pay and are being billed for non-payment. After many years of dealing with Northwest they have always to my knowledge sent proofs to my customers and have dealt squarely with me. What is the real issue here? I am an independant business person who sells advertising and carries The Trivia Pages as part of my product line-up.
