I went to this dealership yesterday (2/15/09) to look at a cheap vehicle they had listed for sale on their website and autotrader - a 1996 Pontiac Transport Minivan, for $1298. Now I am an unemployed student currently living off financial aid, so my budget for a used car is no more than $1500. I'm not stupid - I know that for that price a used vehicle is going to have some problems. So even though the guy I spoke to when I called before I went down (to make sure the vehicle had not yet been sold) told me that they had just put new brakes on the vehicle and that there was nothing else wrong with the vehicle except for part of the turn signal lever being broken (but it still worked), I of course was not going to believe him.

So I took the vehicle over to my mechanic at Goodyear. And let me say that in 10 years I have never had a problem with Goodyear. They've always been super nice to me - the last state safety inspection that I had them do prior to this one, they spent 2 hours inspecting the car and didn't charge me a dime, and they've always treated me well. Oh and since I didn't purchase the car that I had them inspect today, they offered - without me even having to ask - to do a pre-purchase and inspection on the next vehicle I look at, for FREE.  And put that in writing on my receipt.  I will trust Goodyear mechanics for the rest of my life. Anyways. This vehicle that supposedly had "nothing wrong with it" turned out to have a laundry list of problems. Brake lines were leaking, oil was leaking, transmission fluid was leaking (and the transmission pan was missing bolts!), the radiator was leaking, the latch on the rear hatch was broken so that the hatch wouldn't open... There's a lot more but that's what I remember, as I gave the paperwork listing all the problems to the guy who drove the vehicle over to the Goodyear with me (I don't currently have insurance, plan to buy a new policy when I buy a vehicle) to take back to the dealership so that they know about these things. I of course declined to purchase the vehicle.

I doubt, though, that the dealership is actually going to do anything about these problems, and is just going to try to sell the vehicle as is to the next sucker to come along. BEWARE!!!!

Oh and yes the guy that drove the vehicle over for me, while we were waiting for Goodyear to get done with the inspection he tried to get me to join a pyramid scheme that he is involved in. HA!
