After reading some very well-researched material on the company Oceane I now realize I too was taken in.  I was strolling down Newbury Street in Boston today when a friendly young man offered me a sample.  Before I knew it I was in their booth getting applied under my eyes.  The one side he put the serum on looked entirely different than the other.  I started asking questions: What are the main ingredients? What is the concept behind the product?...and before the representative quickly whisked me up the street into the store.  I am an intelligent woman who already has a ton (too much, really) of high-end beauty products, so I truly didn't need anything else, especially an eye cream that costs $1250 (yes, you read that right).  But the representative told me that they were offering 50% off today only because the City of Boston was reimbursing them the difference.

I believed him-and it may be true though it sounds fishy-because the City of Boston HAD shut down Newbury Street, making it pedestrian only for a special event.  He threw three additional full-sized items into the bag, and gave me a card for a future complimentary spa service.  I knew in my gut that this was too much money, and the perks made it seem even more fishy, but I paid the $660.  Came home, and put the eye cream on my husband.  First of all, like the other reviewers, I was also told this will last 3 years.  There is NO WAY it will last more than a handful of months.  The bottle was small compared to the one he used in the booth.  And it is hard to get the cream out without it shooting everywhere (the bottle is shaped and operates like a syringe).  My husband said he felt nothing other than something dry and sticky was now under his eyes, much like cheap hair gel.  At that point I got a sinking feeling.

After researching online I found others complaining about the same thing (he did the dead skin removal act on my arms too).  They had Oceane products in the store, when I asked him why if the line was Truffoire, he told me Oceane "went out of business and the owner of THAT store gave them the leftover merchandise.  This seemed unlikely to me-it didn't make sense.  Now I know why they have Oceane products available.  So, folks Oceane is now Truffoire.  It makes sense why-when researching them-I could not find any reputable magazines or websites reviewing them.  Only a few minor bloggers had anything to report.  They really have got their game down, I was totally suckered in and am feeling serious buyer's remorse.  They move fast so that you don't have a chance to really stop and think about what you're doing.  I have a very grim feeling that none of this stuff is going to be even remotely worth what I paid.  Must to avoid.  Go with reputable, established brands.  Shop at reliable locations such as Sephora if you are looking at mid-range to high-end products.

correction: onsen not oceane

I realize now that I was mistaken about the additional product line-it was Onsen (from a store that according to the Truffoire representative had gone out of business) not Oceane.  However, Oceane did pop up on my receipt, and on an additional receipt Allure popped up.  So, reading about the tactics of Oceane, I am still confident that this is the same company.
