The OSI collection agency made a settlement with me to pay off a credit card debt. I payed the company, and have the bank records to prove the transaction, and they are still trying to say that i NEVER made any payment to them.

This account is still on my credit report, ruining my credit score, and making it seem as if though i didn't close this accont when i did. This company is trying to get as much money as they can out of anyone. This has to be some kind of fraud!!!

Malia, It is true that you should get proof of any financial transaction that you make with ANY collection agency, creditor (the owner of the original debt)or anyone for that matter. I have worked for some of the less credible agencies in the past and know what they try to get away with. They can only get away with something if you let them. Any financial transaction you make, you should be sure to get documentation for. Don't let anyone tell you that you cannot have a paid in full reciept. If they refuse keep asking for supervisors until you get someone who will. Be sure to always get names and extensions of the collectors you work with. Follow up yourself and don't leave it to them to be sure you get your receipt. If you don't get one right away, keep calling and asking for one until you get one. Also, you should keep your records as long as you are able. Going through a divorce taught me that. OSI is an agency with a conscience. If someone is doing something illegal, immoral or unethical report it to a supervisor. OSI does not tolerate employees that do not follow thier corporate values: respect for the individual, team orientation, client focus, accountability and integrity. If made aware of the situation, actions will be taken. If the supervisors do get feedback from the consumers when their employee does not follow these values, they will not be able to do anything to fix it. Put it in writing and it will get more attention. Respectfully....

Advice for Malia re: OSI Collections..and all debt collectors

#3Consumer Suggestion

Malia, This is why you never speak to any collector, and never pay any third party collector/debt buyer. Paying on an old collection account will not remove it from your credit file, it will just mark it as a "paid collection" which actually hurts your credit score more than just letting it go. Making that payment restarted the 7 year negative reporting. Always get everything in writing from collectors. Never do business verbally. Provide your proof of payment to the credit bureaus along with your dispute of the item. Go to ftc.gov and file a complaint online. Then learn all about OSI collections and get all pertinent contact data for them. Send all communications in writing by certified mail return reciept requested. Put the certified# on the letter itself and keep a copy for your records. Good luck!
