Number one, if you were billed, you were most likely triaged and decided to leave for reason unknown. In this circumstance, you will still have to pay for "signing in" and/or having your vitals taken because this is still a service provided to you. I find it HIGHLY unlikely that the hospital is going to bill you if you had NOTHING done, you may not have had what you WANTED initially, but you STILL HAD A SERVICE provided, whatever it may have been. And yes, of course they will not remove you from their collections until the debt is paid in full as you are not their client. ORDD is paid by the hospital to perform a service, and that service is to get the hospital's money to them. The best ORDD can do for you is take your insurance information, send it back to the hospital for billing and you can cross your fingers that the insurance company will pay it after it's been so long. If not, you are still responsible for your debt. Point blank. AND, I know these people, they aren't going to tell you F*** YOU, give us the money! You were probably cursing at them or being extremely rude instead of listening to the help they were trying to give and somebody told you that the debt needs to get paid...by insurance or your pocket. You probably weren't happy you didn't get your own way and are now throwing a fit. I remember callers such as yourself. Good luck in the future. P.S.- They do collect monies for the hospital because they provide a GOOD SERVICE. And they will 100% fix an err if the bill was paid prior to credit reporting via proof of payment or if insurance has already paid it, you can provide an explanation of benefits from the ins. co. and problem solved. If there was ever a mistake, they always fixed it.
