I was served a summons to appear in cout from palisades collection agency from a cell phone i had with at&t wireless. they are saying i owe them almost $2,000!! This is ridiculous!!

Yes i had an account with them but i ended it early because their rates were outrageous!! I was only getting a cell phone to build my credit and at the time I was 22 years old. I'd never had anything on my credit and was trying to build it so i could get an apartmet.

Here it is 4 years later and I get a summons saying I owe them this amount of money. I was also sent a letter saying if i pay half the amount that it would be taken care of. Then here they come with a summons. This is ridiculous!!!

Does anybody know what i can do to solve this? I know i dont owe them that much money!! at the most i owe them a lil over $200 because I ended my contract early.

Also can someone please tell me how to write the cease communications letter? The sherriff that served me the papers say i have 30 days to contact them for payment arrangements. I need some help on this because Im totally stumped on this issue.

Thanks for everyones help. I called the court magistrate today and they told me if i wanted to dispute the charges I need to come in before the 17th of April and I'll be going on Monday. When I get there I'll have that letter typed out so I can give to them and see if they give me a court date to come back to dispute the case. I'll have my fingers crossed. I hope all goes well because I'm not familiar with court systems and things like this. When the sherrif came to my house and served me papers for this I was shocked. Thanks again though everybody. Wish me good luck.

The SOL in GA for written contracts is 6 years from the date you defaulted. [That's the bad news]. The good news is that it is NOT At&t coming after you. That changes everything. Here's what you do: 1. Send your response to the court ASAP! This just needs to be short and sweet. "In response to the summons you served on me dated xxxxx, case# xxxxx, "I hereby deny the debt to Palisades Collections. I never did business with them, and I do not owe them anything". 2. Send a "debt validation request" to Palisades where you DEMAND to see proof of debt with THEM. Demand proof that they own the debt, and request proof of purchase in the form of a contract and the amount they paid for it. Notice AT&T was NOT mentioned in either letter, right? Be sure you do it this way, and send all letters certified mail, return reciept requested. Be sure to put the certified# on the letter itself, and keep a copy for your records. AND...DO NOT sign the letter or put any personal info on it like SS#, DOB, employment, etc.. Good luck

Go to budhibbs.com, and click on Agencies to Avoid. He can tell you how to deal with them and what to do. There is an option to send him an email also. This is a no good company that buys old debts. Most of them are out of the Statute of Limitations. Don't panic though, find out what the SOL is in your State and go from there. Be aware, Palisades is known for making false court documents, and other illegal actions. Try budhibbs.com before you panic. He will for sure give you some ammo. Good Luck!!!
