In Aug. 2007 my husband and I were shopping for a new vehicle for him. WE located a GMC Jimmy for sale at Paramount Kia (the Tunnel Road location, near the Asheville Mall) We called the number listed online and spoke to a employee who was actually at the second location near Biltmore Square Mall.

We gave him the information about what my husband was trading in (a 1990 Chevy Blazer) and was given a general idea of what his trade in value was worth, this of course was not a direct offer for trade in value, as they had to inspect the Blazer themselves before a firm offer for trade could be established. We understood and of course, accepted this.

Well once we got to the dealership, everything changed. We looked over the GMC Jimmy and noticed several spots of body damage and faded/cracked/peeling paint. None of it was bad, things that my husband would repair himself realitivly easily. With this in mind we went inside to begin the price negoations.

Right off the bat the price we were quoted over the phone for the GMC Jimmy suddenly jumped over $1000.00!!!! When we brought up the price we were quoted over the phone for the GMC Jimmy we were told that "we don't know who gave you that quote, so we will not honor it"

When I told them that we were given that quote by an employee at the Biltmore Square Mall location and even gave that employee's name. They refused still to honor the price, even after I asked them to call that employee and verify what I was telling them.

It was one thing after another for the next hour. Their negations for the price of the Jimmy only changed by about $20 to $30, but ironically every time the price of the Jimmy went down, so did the trade in value of the Blazer we brought in!

Finally after an hour, I had enough. We were still nowhere near the price we were quoted on the phone for the GMC Jimmy and they refused to call the employee who gave us the original quote.

To say that this dealership is shady is the understatement of the year.

Also my best friend bought a brand new Kia Optima from the Biltmore Square Mall location just over a year ago. It is a cheap piece of crap. The radio stopped working about 2 months after she bought it. It took 5 trips from her home in Bryson City to Asheville to finally get it fixed.

Last week her car broke down again, they still have no fixed it because they did not bother to order the parts until YESTERDAY! And ironically enough, just like the other report, her car is "not under warrenty" either!

Apparently they only thing under warrenty is the fact that they will screw you over whenever they can.

Cory, in my experience with car buying, it is unethical to change the price of a vehicle between 2 different employees of the same business. The call we made to the dealership was to establish the price of the vehicle, essentally to be sure the price listed for the vehicle online was truly the price being asked by the dealership. Once Employee #1 verified, yes this is the asking price, one would expect that price to be the same once we actually got to the dealership 1 hour later. Not suddenly go up $1000.00! It also smells of a rat that when a potential customer requests that the price quoted be honored by Employee #1 and that you respectfully request that someone from the dealership call that employee and verify the price quoted and is refused that definatly something is up. And yes we walked out of that dealership pronto and never bought the vehicle. We took the cash we had in hand and bought a vehicle elsewhere. Little did they know that we were ready to slap $3000.00 in their hand that night, but they chose to play games with us so they lost out.

Typical Car Deal

The extra $1000 was what they were gonna "give" you for your trade-in. They'd "give" you a $1000 for your trade-in, in other words, getting it for free. Or, the extra $1000 was the price they were gonna start at and let you "bargin" them down because of "the several spots of body damage..". You stated that every time the price of the jimmy went down $20 or $30, so did the price of your trade-in. See my point. They were probably trying to sell you the jimmy for $6 to $8,000, depending on the year, which they picked up for free or next to free as a trade-in on another vehicle. I don't know what they sell for and you don't say what they WERE selling it for but you were trading in an 18 year old vehicle, that's where the extra $1000 came from. They tried to jack the price of the jimmy up by a $1000, they'll show a "trade-in value of $1000 for the blazer, they get for free and sell the blazer to the next sucker for $2,999 or $3,999 as the "manager's special". Typical car deal. I hope you were smart enough to walk.

You Just Look the Car Over and Then Begin the Buying process???

What I read was you looked the car over, found some minor blemishes in appearance which your husband could easily repair...and then...you walk in and work out the contract details. What happened to the TEST DRIVE? Incredible.
