Parker & Jefferson Anne Jefferson Credit Report Scam Internet
I applied for a job through an ordinary job listing site. The next day I got an email. The email seemed a little plain. The text of the email is here:
I have received your application for the opening 'Mail Room Position Available' in Raleigh, North Carolina, with a pay of $42,000. My client has expressed interest in organizing an interview for this opening.
Can you let me know via our booking system which dates and times are most suitable and provide the rest of your candidate details. I should have know the pay was too high. After filling out a couple of pages of "prelinary interview questions", The website asked me to verify my identity by running an online credit report. Here is the text of that page:
Parker & Jefferson work nationwide, as such, followups may be conducted over the phone, and not in person. It is therefore required that we verify your identity and valid citizenship/residency, in order to achieve this we require a valid credit check report. This credit check will not negatively influence your credit, your score will NOT be used for determining suitability. When you complete the credit check below you will be given a customer number / reference, please retain this number as verification of completing the credit check. You should NOT send us your actual score or report, just the customer identification/reference number, your personal details will NOT be available to Parker & Jefferson or any employers as they are confidentially handled by the reporting agency.
When you have completed your credit check, please enter your report/customer number and click 'Complete Interview'.
We will forward your information to our applications staff upon completion of the verification.
Fortunately I didn't fall for it, but searching the internet reveals that several people were not lucky enough to smell the scam in advance. The scammer have pulled the same scam under a different name: Simpson & Scott. They will likely change their name again soon.
