Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I am a 32 year old teacher/Graphic Artist in Atlanta, Georgia. I was unfortunate enough to purchase a Maltese puppy from Patricia Gibbens in Warner Robins, Georgia. My puppy is named Marley. As I understand, some others also purchased a puppy from Pat. She is not who you think she is.

She lied to me about my puppy, and now cheated me out of $500.00. Now she is irate and is only concerned about her reputation as a breeder. She is not concerned about the puppies she breeds at all. For some strange reason she thinks I am trying to pull something over on her. I paid her my hard earned money and the only thing she did for me was give to me a puppy with a congenital disease.

Let me inform you of my situation. This is my first puppy and the experience was horrible. My puppy is the oldest of three. His parents are Annie and Maestro. If you purchased any puppies from Annie's litter please beware.

I was originally quoted 800.00 over the phone for Marley akaBarkley. I understand that you all were charged $1100 & $1200 for the other puppies. I think she knew something all along or else, why the low cost? I mailed her a $400.00 deposit about a week before picking up my puppy.

Anyway, the Thursday before I was to come and pick Marley up, she called to tell me that she had to take Marley to the vet because he had a limp in his back right leg. She went on as to how sorry she wasblah, blah, blah. And that she hated to call and give me this horrible news. Nevertheless, my boyfriend and I went to see the puppy at her house.

When we got there the puppy was limping and his dew claw was missing from his back right paw. I questioned her about this and she said she wasn't sure how it happened. She was at work. She also said that the vet said that he was too small to do X-rays on and that this may be something he may grow out of or may have a limp for the rest of his life. Then she said only asked for 100.00 more.

Believing that she was a reputable and reliable older lady, I believed that he would grow out of this limp. So I agreed to purchase him for $100.00 more. Okay I could deal with a limp, but I was not prepared for what my vet in Georgia told me. He said Marley has a congenital disease known as Cerebellar Hypoplasia. This was the worst news a puppy owner could here.

My vet told me that Marley could never be bred (not that I was going to, but I don't have a choice now anyway), and that his brothers and sisters should be checked also. This disease was contracted in the womb. His mother had parvo or some other kind of disease before or during her pregnancy.

Nevertheless, Marley is a happy little boy, with all the toys and love he can receive. Pat has been very vicious and wicked with her words toward me concerning this problem and has accused me of harassment if I contact her again.

Please be aware of who you are doing business with!!

This is to clarify my rebuttal: Shemutrus did NOT take her puppy to the vet as she was advised to do and I didnt hear from her like she promised to do after she took him home. I kept trying to call her and finally reached her, and she told me that her vet told her the same thing my vet told me about little Barkley. That was a lie as she didnt take him to the vet in Alabama. She had my vets card as he wanted to talk to the new owners vet about the puppy. I found out later that she had in fact never taken him to the vet when she got home. She then moved from Alabama to Atlanta Ga and called me Dec. 31 yelling about my mother dog having parvo. She also emailed my other owners and told them my Annie had parvo. My dogs are always taken to the vet and my vet can verify that. My dogs are healthy. I can give anyone the names of all my puppies owners. Barkley came from a litter of three puppies and both of the other puppies owners were advised of my concern of Barkley limp and my vets findings. All my other puppies owners answered her negative comment with positive comments as well as praise for my care. I still cant believe that ripoff can post negative comments without verifying the validitly of demented people. She was told I would return her deposit when he developed a limp, and she WAS told he had one. When she told me on the phone she still wanted him, I told her to look at him first as I had someone that would love him like he was. Yes I did tell her I would return her money ( after she went balistic) as I was concerned with Barkley being with someone of that character. She refused! My personal believe is that she allowed something to happen to him and she was trying to force me to give her the money back with out proving her allegations and returning the puppy. I never received a detailed report from her Vet. I went to visit my vet with her information from her email. My vet was puzzled and said her allegations didnt make sense. I couldnt believe that when I told her to bring him back and I will give her the money back and she said NO. I then ask her what she wanted and she said she wanted the money and the puppy. I told her that isnt the way it works. There is a possibility that she doesnt even have him any longer. I still worry about little Barkley (aka Marley). His brother lives in the Miami area and I drove half way to Miami to deliver him as I wont put my puppies on an airplane. His sister lives in Nevada and the owner flew to Atlanta and I met her there and she hand carried her back to NV. They both have fantastic homes and keep in touch with me. Shemetrus will have to live with her lies. I'm confused as to how you were ripped off and what it is you are expecting from her? You were informed the puppy may have a limp for the rest of his life before you purchased the puppy. You chose to adopt the puppy at a discount based on that fact. You were provided with as much information as she had at the time, honestly and up front it sounds like. Did you really not take the puppy to the vet for months knowing there was a possible health issue that needed more looking into and monitoring aside from providing basic puppy health care? HAVE you provided her with the records from the veterinarian (this is ALWAYS very important)? While there isn't currently a treatment, it won't get worse. The situation now is the same as the day of adoption as you were informed; he will have that limp for the rest of his life. Dogs with this condition lead generally normal, happy, healthy (within normal) lives, especially if the owner adjusts to any limitations when it is mild. Where did you get parvo from? I WOULD run some STD tests, particularly for herpes though if I was the breeder. Have you done much independent research on the condition? There is more than one cause, but parvo is new to me. Where did you find it? She informed you of a problem before purchase, charged what is effectively an adoption price as opposed to a sale price even though there was a chance there would be no issues with the limp later, she then offered to take the puppy back and give your money back (which is unusual if you didn't provide any records, knew of a problem before purchase AND didn't go to the vet until months later for a diagnosis and basic health check) and she still somehow managed to rip you off? How exactly? You've told your story, but it isn't clear to me at this time how you were ripped off exactly. *just my opinions*

rebuttle to false allegations

First I want to say that it is poor business to post untrue statements without checking them out. I tried to respond in the past, but the page was messed up and I was unable to do so. Everything that Shemetrus Halloway said in her allegations are not true. She has slandered my name as well as liabled herself. She was told the puppy had a limp and she was gieven my vets name and phone number. I initially told her I wouldnt sell her the puppy, but she wouldnt hear of that. I then discounted the puppy's price. She was to take the puppy to her vet with in three days and she was told to have her vet contact my vet. She NEVER took her puppy to the vet for about three months. Then she called me and screamed at me that I sold her a puppy with a congenital disease. I told her to get me a copy of her vets detailed report with his findings and bring that and the puppy back to me. She NEVER did that. I at first told her I would replace the puppy, but she said no. She still never furnished me a report. She accused my dogs of having parvo and that is what caused the puppies problems. My dogs are well taken care of and live in my home They are taken to the vet when ever they have a problem. I finally told her I didnt want her to have Little Barkley(aka marley) and for her to bring him back and I would refund her money. I had a friend that wanted him and would give him a good home. SHe said NO. I asked her what she wanted and she said she wanted her money and keep the puppy. I told her that isnt the way it works. She either get her money back or keeps the puppy. Shemetrus emailed a lot of my puppy owners with the complaint she put on your page. Everyone of them emailed her back telling her what a good breeder I was and how I went beyond what was expected of me. I really wanted her to brink the puppy back as I didnt want a crazy person to have one of my puppies. I really tried to screen my new parents, but she fooled me. She was tring to scam me into giving her her money back and her not returning the puppy. I wanted my Vet to re-examine the puppy again with her vets findings. I had taken him to the vet three times to try to get answers prior to calling her with the disappointing news. Her exact words were "NO ONE else is getting my baby." I told her to come and look at him and decide. WHen she came to my home she said "I will love him forever, if he limps I will help him, Iwill carry him if I have to". I felt so blessed to have found someone that felt like that and at that time I thought he was getting a wonderful home. I still cant believe that someone can post such lies, and they cant be removed. If any one has any questions or needs proof of what I say as being the truth, please email me and I will call you and give you proof as to what good care and good start I give my puppies. I love everyone of my little puppies and still hear from my puppies owners. I still worry about Barkley (aka marley). I wonder if she let something happen to him and was trying to scam me out of money. Like I said she refused to bring him back for her money. Patricia Gibbens s****.
