 On Monday, Feb 29 at approx. 6:00 pm, I took my 9 yr old son to the Payless Shoes Inc located at 4214 E. Main St., Col. Oh. AsI had obtained an gift card from a local charity for $25.00, I gave it to the clerk explaining it was such in case she needed to verify it, then proceeded to locate shoes with my son. Upon returning to the counter to check out with my son and the shoes the clerk and the gift card were not there. There was a security guard standing next to the counter the entire time. I asked him where the clerk may be; he responded he would go get her and proceeded to do so. When the clerk returned I reminded her I had given her the gift card and needed to check out. She replied: "I remember, it was on top of the register". I asked "do you know what happened to it?" She responded "no...I left it there and went to the back to do some work. I then asked what would be done about it (as the card was left in her care). She responded she did not know what else to do. I Asked to speak with a manager. A lady responded saying she was the assist mgr. I then asked her what would be done about the matter, she responded: "I can take your name and information and send it to our corporate office. ". I replied: "The officer was standing right there and can confirm the incident, and if you have security cameras, they can verify and determine what happened to the card". She replied: "Corporate will have to do that". I respond :"Can I not get credit for the gift card for the?" She replied: "You will have to contact corporate for that." So I then informed the assist mgr I would be calling the Whitehall Police to report the theft of the card and possibly the occurred at the hands of one of her employees. The assist mgr responded: "feel free to do whatever you want". I have to admit by this time I had not only began to loose patience but was also getting frustrated with the indifference of the staff and management of Payless Inc. When the police arrived, I explained the matter to them informing them I to see any video footage showing what may have happened with the gift card and was told I would have to make that request with their corporate management. The officers responded, they would go back and talk with the assist mgr to see if they could find out what happened. The officers returned stating corporate would need contacting for resolution. Needless to say my 9 yr old was not happy about getting his new shoes. I reported the matter to the Corporate Call Center on Monday, Feb. 29 and again on Wednesday, March 2. On Wednesday I Spoke with a young lady named Ashley whom informed me she had the information on the report. I then asked would there be any resolution by Payless as the $25.00 gift card remained missing and my son did not get his shoes. She responded: "No. There's nothing else I can do." I replied: "Thank you. Have a good day."
