I will NOT be using the Paypal credit card except for emergencies (it's got a 100 dollar limit, anyway).   This has been  a frustrating experience; simply using the credit card for one or two purchases, which I did as a stopgap measure when I lost my wallet and had no access to cash.  It was an emergency situation in which I needed to eat....and so I did....but I have paid at least fifty dollars in late fees, partly due to my own disorganization; but Paypal Credit Services contributed to this debacle and made a mint off of me in the process by making it impossible to pay online.

On Paypal's website, it appears as if one can pay the bill online. However, repeated attempts failed.  I got an error message telling me that Bank of America was not a bank recognized by Paypal Credit Services' software. Really?!  Really, people? Bank of America? It's only the biggest bank in the universe.  Nevertheless---I was not able to pay the bill online.

What resulted next was an attempt to contact customer service.  I must have exchanged emails at least ten times with representatives, all of whom told me to call a phone number which I could not access via email.  The emails arrived in my in-box.   It's possible that if I tried to navigate Paypal's confusing website I could have accessed this phone number....but I could not figure out how to do that, any more than I could figure out how to get the software to accept Bank of America as a valid banking institution through which to pay them.

Here's one of the emails:

As a result of all this, my usual habit of paying credit cards online did not work.  So I paid via snail mail...but being somewhat disorganized, and I will own up to that myself----it cost me a lot in late fees.

The whole experience was extremely frustrating, unnecessary, and costly.  To add insult to injury, the envelope they enclose for snail mail payment has, in the space for a stamp, a square that says:  "Save a stamp! Pay online."

"Have more blessed days ahead and you take care!" Ugh!

Hello there---that is interesting to know.  And I appreciate your taking the time to write this.  However, I never even got as far as putting in a routing number.  Paypal's online software lets you select from a list of banks or type in the name of your bank.  This is where I ran into the problem.  The software simply didn't recognize Bank of America, or B of A (I tried both of those titles).

The other problem was, to me, the lack of online support.   I can't understand why Paypal offers online/email support, when it doesn't actually exist.  I have run into this problem with them in other areas---being unable to get customer service help; long waits for phone assistance; minimal to zero online support.

I do use B of A billpay for my B of A credit cards, and it didn't occur to me to set it up for the Paypal account.  That is a good idea and going forward that's what I'll do.

Your problem is most likely Bank of America.

Bank of America is the only bank I am aware of that uses different Routing Numbers(and I have also been told account numbers) for Paper Checks than they do for Electronic Payments.  So if you are using the information from a Paper Check you are most likely putting in the WRONG information.

What you need to do is contact Bank of America and see if indeed your account is one of these that has different numbers.  Then find out the correct information.

Oh and as for you being disorganized.  Bank of America also allows on-line bill pay.  You could actually initiate the bill from BofA set for the date you request to go to Paypal.
