Pep Boy's dishonest warranty on auto engines and consumer rip-off fraud Sacramento California
My wife and I bought a 3.8 liter buick remanufactured engine from pepboys about
2 years ago and it was sabotaged from the
rebuilders factory in mexico. We paid over
$1500.00 dollars for a dud engine complete
with a fraudulent test cell report!!
Also we went to pick up the motor the
warranty paper's had been taken out by the
store manager!! and placed in the customer
service draw hidden!! We got the paper's after
questioning one of the asst. managers. The
store had neglected to fill out the warranty
paper at all. So we ended up doing it after
dragging out the info from the "TO BUSY"
asst. manager. Also we were informed that
only the store "head manager" could sign it!!
He never "GOT AROUND TO IT" in 2 weeks.
so we picked it up and stormed out of the
store.
It cost us $750.00 and a week to find out it was a dud engine. It over heated after 10
minutes and then a LOUD rapping sound
could be heard!!!We had had a certified
mechanic friend put it in at his shop, he
waited till we were there to fire it up
and triple check the fluids!!! He said when
that happened it was rebuilt WRONG!
So we all went to the pepboys store to
ask what our recourse was!! They informed
us at THAT time we had to take it up with
the engine rebuilder!!! NO were in the
warranty at the store did it mention this!
It was only on the warranty papers with
the engine!
We attemped to get a hold of the rebuilder
in Los Angeles California but were put on
hold and disconnected so we went back to pepboys, they called them and mysteriously
got someone on the line!!! We were informed
that we had to take the car with defective
engine to a garage of their choosing in Sacramento (their mechanic)and he would
determine if it was a dud!!!
So we called this mechanic to make an
appointment. He informs us that he want's
$500.00 upfront before he even lays hands
on our car/engine. He also informs us that
he had one engine of theirs come in with a
box of cotex's inside it one time. He further
go's on and says that it will cost us an
additional $1500.00 to put the new engine in
if we op for that!!!!
So we went back to pepboys and they said they
(pepboys) weren't libel for any cost it's
between us and the remanufacturing company.
they (pepboys)said we were suppost to take it to their INSTALLER for $1800.00 for a warranty from them.
At this point we cut our losses because
the car was only worth $3500.00 and gave it
to my son,he totally seazed the engine and
then took it to a shop and had it checked
out they had miss ground the crank and there
was milling deposits in the oil journals
(holes).
So everyone stay the HECK AWAY FROM PEPBOYS
and their engines!!!take it to your "local"
machine shop!!
p.s. my son went to BBB on our behalf but
nothing happened!!
