Recently I went to Pepboys in San Diego, California, I had a very, very bad experiance there. I went for a brake job and got there at 8:30am. I was told the previous day, I should bring my car in at that time, to get the job done. Aparently, the mechanic would not get there till 9:30am, so i waited. I inquired as to if they had the parts in stock, while waiting. They said yes. The time was now 10:42am. Now they are telling me, they have to send someone for the parts. They told me while they were getting the parts however, they would resurface the rooters, then the machine broke down. The time was now 12:30pm. Since they couldn't complete the job without doing the resurfacing of the rooters, they put the old brake pads back on my car, and sent me on my way. Less than a mile from the shop, I hear some loud noises coming from the back of my car. I took it back to the Pepboys, and found the caliper bolts were not tightened down correctly, by the mechanic. I bought this to the attention of a garage employee, then I had to wait for them to tighten them correctly. I got out of Pepboys at 3:00pm. I would like to know what kinda professionalism, is that making a customer wait from 8:30am to 3:00pm in their store, saying they have the parts needed, having it be false, and not even being capable of tightening something back down correctly? I cannot understand, or even begin to, as to why this mechanic would even still be employed here, if at all.

Got in touch with Corporate Office, and spoke to a very nice person, who listened & was shocked by my story. I told him about other poor experiances I had with two different Pepboys locations, and he made a case for my incident, and was going to have the Pepboys store involved, called about how to resolve this. Eventually, I got a call from an employee from the store, and they had the nerve to say I shouldn't ever get Corporate Office involved, as it takes too long to fix the situation, when it goes through them.. That sounds like a crock of BS to me! The only reason they didn't want me going through Corporate again, was because it meant that somebody's butt was on the line, and having to answer for a screw up, that in no way, shape, or form, from beginning to end, should have happened.

The problem with writing a letter of commendation, is that they have to DO something worth commending to begin with. This has not been the case. I am always fair with my compliments, as well as how I go about voicing any concerns or complaints I might have. One of the best ways a customer can show appreciation for a job well done, is to continue to patron an establishment. If a business cannot be professional, or competent in handling a customer's business, they shouldn't expect a glowing review, let alone a return visit from said customer. Word also gets around, and it can further harm a company's reputation. If a person is willing to pay money to a company for a service, they expect the service to be done RIGHT. Or else there is no sense in going to that particular company, and paying them to do a job. As far as the time they quoted, if they thought at all, there could be an issue getting the work completed, during a certain amount of time, they should either A) not have given a specific amount of time, or B) been honest it could take quite a while, as they had to send someone to get the parts they needed, for the work they were going to do. Considering they were not honest from the start with us, how wise would be to expect them to be from this point on? That alone would wear on anyone's patience.

No time to write a letter of praise

Perhaps nobody takes the time to write a letter complimenting the service they received at Pep Boys is because nobody ever receives good service there. They are easily the worst choice you could make when deciding where to have your vehicle serviced. This is because their staff is generally unqualified, their parts are poor quality, and the employees could care less about about anyone's complaints. If you want your car repaired properly and by trained mechanics, find a decent independent repair shop and avoid the big chain stores. Independent shops depend on return business to survive. Chain stores depend on fresh meat since they know you probably won't be back.

I dont agree with the employees at the store that they told you the work was going to get done at a certain time but it didnt. They should have told you an extended amount of time incase of such things occurring. As for the customer I do feel your pain but on the same note.. sometimes things happen and its human error. If we had 1 customer call corporate when we do something good for every 10 that call when we make a mistake then it might be a fair trade but unfortunately like everything else in life.. when it comes to complaining everyone wants to be the first in life... when it comes to commenting.. no one seems to find the time to write a simple letter. The same amount of time they miraculously seem to find when they want to complain.

Since it seemed I missed placing the store number in the first line of my report, I'll post it again now, even though it's also in the report title. Pepboys Store #0978
