What they were selling was SEO (search engine optimization) for my website.  I was promised that someone working on my project would be in touch to discuss it to get it off the ground.  After 3 weeks there was still no communication with me about the work and when it would begin.  When I did receive my first email it had no questions about my business or any plan about what they'd be doing... only 6 keywords (none of which were appropriate).  I wrote back that they would need to give me a statement that they are responsible for whatever work they do.  They declined. And I told them emphatically that there would be no deal and I would not allow anyone to work on my web site unless they are responsible.  After several more weeks and phone conversations they agreed.

The next step then was to discuss a plan and an appropriate keyword and I emailed 3 questions.  They never answered my questions satisfactorily and I could not speak to who was assigned project manager Don' who was apparantly off on vacation.  After a couple weeks waiting for this I gave up and fired them (for the 3rd and last time) for breach of basic agreement which included planning & communicating responsibility. (I copy below from their LinkedIn public description)

Warning! They pull you in further by saying they will correct it.

This company's is a complete scam! They tell you after three months of nothing happening on your account they will give you two months free and correct their mistake if you sign a new contract. Do not believe them! I fell for it. Another two months will go by, and no new work done, and this time they will charge you a monthly fee on top of that!

Do not believe one call made to you saying they will make it right. I have had two calls telling me such and now fighting like heck to get my money back for a third time. Now they are threatening me...when they have done no work and their website says "Rock Solid Money Back Garantee".

Buyer beware of this company!

Suspending prior comments as company makes it right.

I am suspending my prior comments since I can't erase them, as the company insists it wants to make it right.

Pepper Bottle Technologies (Manager, Allison) contacted me to dialogue about the problem and attempt to solve it.  As good faith gesture she offered me Premium SEO service and next 4-5 months free if I will allow them to work out the problems I'm having.

Eric Dean, my salesman, called me later in the day to understand the problem and wants to help get the job done that I hired him for.  Since he and I communicate well he agreed to be my primary contact and liaison between me and their technical team.  He assured me his is legitimate, not a Black Hat SEO operation. So, we've begun by working on my key word phrases.

How problems are handled can be the best test of character.  This can actually help a company gain broad credibility- even better than a referral, by publicly demonstrating its resolve to support customers.  I am allowing this to happen and will update this report further as the job gets done.  Hopefully, this story will end with everyone winning including Pepper Bottle Technologies getting public acclaim for sticking with it and delivering on what I need from them (which is relevant search engine rankings for my business).
