I am very disgusted with this company.  To my dismay, I found this company on craigslist which should have been a pointer.  Real companies hire from indeed or something like that. I completed some files for them and after 3 weeks, have yet to be paid on one file.  It took approximately one month to receive payment on the first two files. The owner continues to tell me that payment has been mailed by the bank.  I don't know if any of you use online banking to pay bills, it doesn't take three weeks for a check to arrive.  The first file I completed was on February 9.  After the file was completed, the owner alerted me that payments are mailed out on Fridays.  I completed a second file for them. The total to be paid was $229.50.  She told me the payment was "posted" that Friday, February 14, 2014.  When I received the check well over two weeks later on February 5, the check was dated February 21. She lied and stated that she sent it out on the 14th.  

 Here is a nice email I sent the owner on February 20 

"Hi ****:
 
I still haven't received the check.  Was it an online banking check. Did it have an estimated date of arrival?  I am just wondering as its been almost a week since it was mailed.
 
Thanks for your attention to this.

She didn't post payment until February 21, 2014 proving that she lied about the date it was sent.  With a real company, you don't have to remind them to pay you for work performed. 
 
So, I still haven't received payment on the 3rd file which was completed on February 19th.  I still have not received payment for that file almost one month later.  She advertised some weekend work on a Thursday and sent on a Friday. The file wasn't that long so I waited for a Sunday to complete it. All weekend I hadn't been feeling well and emailed her: 
 

 
Hey ****:
 
I am sorry, I am trying to finish it. I fell asleep and woke up with a nasty sore throat. I got to 41:06 before I feel asleep about 12:00 Noon. I don't know if you want me to finish the last hour of it or break it up. I know it's a rush. I hadn't been feeling good all weekend.
 
Let me know if you want me to keep chugging away at it
 
SHE NEVER RESPONDED to my email.  I ended up having to go to the doctor for dehydration and emailed her the half completed file.  She responded back to me after I sent her the half completed file telling me how unprofessional I was after she not having responded to her own emails.  We parted ways after she was only concerned about herself and not that she had an ill contractor. 
 
I emailed her again concerning the check to which on February 24 she responded
 

Hi Jennifer,

 Yes, you have two checks already sent out to you for those three files. You should be receiving those sometime this week.

 This shows that she has lied because again, if I received one check and they were sent out at the same time, why wouldn't I have received the other?   

 On March 4th, I politely emailed her 

 Dear *****:

 
I have not received the second check for the 3rd file. Please advise. I received the first last Tuesday and it was dated February 21 far beyond the date you stated it was sent so please let me know.

To which she told me all checks have been mailed by the bank.  Yeah right. I waited ANOTHER week asking her to investigate the status of the check.  I can't call Bank of America inquiring about her account. 
 
Please immediately investigate status of final payment as it has not been received. This is not a way to operate a business. I will consult with labor officials if payment is not received.
 
I'm concerned because last week it was two weeks ago. Please immediately mail payment.
 
The owner is telling me to investigate the status of the check when as the employer/one issuing the contract this is her responsibility.
 
To me in her nasty email, she accused me of harrassment for asking where my own money was. 
 
Harassing me for your payment will not really make it get there any faster, aside from it being very unprofessional of you, there’s simply nothing I can do to speed up the US postal service.
 
To my irritation, I sent her the following email
 
Asking someone about paying you what you are owed is not harassment. It's not my fault your business practices are shady. however I will pursue this further as I completed 3 files for you in good faith. The 4th I'm not concerned with because I didn't finish due to dehydration. you're very unprofessional with your practices. Pay me what is due. You live 6 miles from me it doesn't take one month for a check to arrive. Taking it a legal route would be much more expensive for you so just pay your debt and trust me I will never contact your ghetto company again.
 
After being ill and me notifying her of being ill with NO RESPONSE from her, she had the audacity to send this email.

Hi Jennifer,

 Once again, as was explained before, the checks are not mailed by me they’re mailed by BoA headquarters, which I believe it out west somewhere and takes a little longer than your typical timeframe from the same state. Upon completion of your file we post the payment and it’s processed. All of our invoicing, payments, and books are kept legally by Bank of America. You are welcome to challenge them. And they will be happy to provide unlimited amounts of proof of payment to an attorney of your choosing. Perhaps if you consult with an attorney, your attorney can explain this to you where you would be able to understand it better. I’m really not sure how much more plain I can make it. I’ve tried to be as elementary as I can in my explanation, but evidently you’re not following how this works. AGAIN, there is simply no other way for me to explain that to you. I am sorry that you do not understand it. You should also consult with a professional transcriptionist that could perhaps make that a little more understandable for you because clearly, you’re not receiving the factual information that I’m trying to give you, as well it will be very helpful for you in the future on how to be professional in your services.

 Please do contact anyone you wish for legal advice, I’ve also copied this to our legal team and they have all the paperwork together with the proof or documentation of monies that has been paid – whether or not you’ve received it maybe be an issue on your end.

 This email is also to make documentation of the unprofessional harassment by you. As well as notifying you of the unprofessional rejecting of an accepted assignment to which you flaked on in the 11th hour, which caused the company hardship, and will be countersued for loss of full payment on that project due to your unprofessionalism. We have proof that you did not download the file until that very morning it was due, to which I emailed you immediately asking you about your file, you said you had been working on it (according to the email you sent me)– which I knew was not true, because you had just downloaded it. You stated everything was fine and I would have the complete document before 5PM. You did not mention at any point that you were not feeling well or asked of there could be a backup transcriptionist to help with the file – there was never any indication that the file was not going to be complete and delivered on time.

 Again, your practices, harassing someone even after you’ve been assured of payment, is extremely unprofessional.  We DO hope you seek legal advice as our practices are dependable and our track record impeccable.

 
I acknowledge and recognize that I will not be paid for the fourth file as I was sick but someone calling you unprofessional after they fail to as a supervisor respond to you is a bunch of bull.  Telling someone that they are harrassing you because they haven't received payment in  a month is crap.
