Pimsleur Language Program Beware of the marketing and cost Internet
Be careful if you decide to use the Pimsleur Language Approach in learning a language. The cost and marketing can be an issue. I responded to an on-line offer for an introductory Italian CD for $9.95, not realizing or being careful enough to check that when I furnished a credit card number and received it, they would begin sending their Level I Italian course (of four levels) for $256.
I was very busy at the time, did not read the fine print, and when the payment cost of $64 appeared, I thought that was the cost of the Level I course (several CDs). Wrong! That was a down payment of four billings on my credit card for a total of $256.
After the Level II arrived, and I was billed an additional $256 dollars in four $64-dollar installments, I called their customer service. it was too late to return the Level I and Level II courses. When I discussed cancelling future shipments, the representative immediately started reducing the cost of the final two courses--Level III and Level IV.
The Pimsleur language approach may be a good one, but check carefully the price, the conditions under which you receive it, and check out their competition, (((competitor's name redacted))), to see if the cost and value might be better.
