Pinnacle took over the apartment complex I've been living in for the past three years this past September. Things have been going moderately well for me even though I have heard many complaints from neighbors who have lived in the complex for years but anyway as I was saying, things were going all right until the beginning of December.
I have made it a point to pay ahead on my rent because of the way my pay cycle is. So I had at least $200 invested in December's rent and went and scheduled a payment for the 28th of November thinking it would come out on the 30th when I got paid as usual. However, my bank decided to take it out a day early which resulted in overdraft fees and a return item. Seeing this error and seeing that Pinnacle still showed me as being paid, I decided to use the avaiable funds I had in the bank and schedule a payment, hoping to offset any fees incurred because of this error.
On the 3rd of December, I showed a processed payment of $225 on my bank account and on the 4th, I added an extra $100 which was pending. By that time, I was assesed $75 in fees plus $10 per day late even though I have until the 5th of each month (as stated in the lease) to make a payment. The total payments of $325 were cleared by my bank but have not been reflected on my balance owed.
On the 11th of December, I received a phone call and I explained what happened and that I was waiting on a check and a refund and I would have the full amount by the 14th of December. I received the 5 day pay or quit notice for $480 that evening. On the 14th, I got up, checked my bank balance, and went to the site to pay my balance only to find that they had fined me another $100 in fees. I tried to pay with my debit card but it kept giving me an error. I tried four times. So later in the day I went to the grocery store and paid my balance (even gave them a few dollars extra). When I checked my balance with the complex later that evening, I had a credit.
Skip to today, 12/15 and I happened to check my balance again to see if maybe the $325 I'd paid was actually reflected now only to find that I had ANOTHER $10 charge for "late fees". I do not understand this at all. I was completely paid up and I have actually given this company 25% over what my regular rent is.
I am needless to say, extremely annoyed about this entire situation and quite franly, if feels like extortion. I will pay the $10 fee today but does that mean that I'm going to get another "fee" tomorrow?? When is enough enough?!
