September 21, 2007, Devin Peterson, a representative of Pinnacle Security came to our door as we were heading out to dinner. He told us that our existing security monitoring provider was no longer the representative for GE security products in this area, and that GE wanted to upgrade our system. (Frighteningly, from reading several other reports, it seems to be the same load of poo that other people have heard). He explained that we were no longer under contract with our previous provider, and convinced us that the equipment was all our own.

More than that, he wouldn't go away so that we could discuss the situation. We even asked him to leave and he went out the porch! So we finally signed the contract. He had the system installed within the hour, and all was "well" until our alarm was triggered three days later.

Turns out he had failed to mention that we weren't being monitored by Pinnacle, but by another service we'd never heard of, and the alarm system had been set up in installation mode, so that my wife and I weren't notified! (Luckily nothing was taken...) My wife read the riot act to a Customer Service Manager named Thomas, and that was the end of that.

We finally got around to cancelling the other service at the end of January. They called to ask when they could pick up their equipment... Which was either re-purposed or thrown out with our "upgrade." They let us know that it was leased equipment and it needed to be returned to them or we could pay them $1300.

So to Pinnacle we went. We spoke with Brianne in Customer Service. She mentioned that Devin had several complaints about him, so my complaint would have to be recorded and sent to Legal for review. I asked for them simply to relase us from the contract as recompense for the issue.

I got a phonecall back from "Haley," another customer service person last week. She informed me that I had signed the contract, so I could pay out $1200 or keep the service. Then her "supervisor" Adam said essentially the same thing, although he offer 2 months of free service for my inconvenience, but insisted that he couldn't release me from the contract.

I even offered them $500 to just go away, which was 1/2 of the contract buy-out, but he told me I couldn't do that, either.

I filed my BBB complaint--I can't believe they're members!--but haven't heard anything back from them, of course, and there's nothing they can do, either, so I'm stuck with this scum as my security company until 2010. YUK.

Unfortunately in this industry, if the salesman is dishonest he can tell you all kinds of lies to make you sign a contract. I really apologize for this employee and I wish there was a way to be able to tell if an employee is telling customers things like this to get them to buy, so we could prevent these such situations. I agree its dishonest, and I know that I pride myself in always being completely honest with my customers, even if it means leaving their home with less money, or even without a sale. And for your information, Pinnacle is monitored through SAI, who is the number one monitoring company in the united states, and unlike many companies, we dont lease you the equipment. Once its in your home it belongs to you. Also FYI, I personally know an owner and have met the CEO of the company, and I know for a fact that they are extremely honesty, and upstanding people. I could write pages on here about the behind the scenes actions the owners and leaders of the company are taking to make sure this company is as honest and customer satisfactory as possible. -A pinnacle employee-

I appreciate you being honest. I have to say about that dirtbag Devin Peterson that he apparently still works for them, since I did have an opportunity to give the dirtbag a piece of my mind at one point during this process. I told him he should be ashamed of himself, etc. I kind of thought he might've been just a college kid, as the rebuttal indicated, but it seems that he's still working for them, even if he is. But we certainly have learned a lesson from this. We will be VERY careful about any bringing on any security service in the future...

We've now gone through the whole BBB process. They "gave us" 6 new contacts for our windows and doors and two months free. The contacts were supposed to "compensate" us for the whole situation. But then they BILLED us for the contacts! They were our compensation for slimy sales practices, and they freaking billed us! Fortunately, we weren't done with the BBB process at that point, and we refused to call it resolved until they cleared our account. Then they gave us the 2 months free in compensation for their basic stupidity. I still hate it that we're stuck with their service, and I hate that they're getting my money, but at least I don't have to talk to them anymore...

My appologies for the Sales rep

Almost all of the sales reps that you find with any security company are college students that are working for the summer. These sales reps can get over zealous and and a lot of times tell the customer exacly what they want to hear, whether it is true or not. Unfortunately, security companies (whether it be Pinnacle, ADT, etc...) will not be able to confirm what was said by the sales rep as usually they are only with the company for one summer. In these cases, the companies need to go by the contract that was signed by the customer. There is nothing that I can do (as a lower end employee who tries to keep it real for our customers) except advise you to read any contract carefully before you sign. Also, if you are truly not interested in the system in the first place, don't hesitate to just close the door! Best of luck in the future... Anonymous employee
