No words can begin to describe the anguish I recently experienced because of the poor training and unprofessionalism of Pizza Hut employees.

I placed an online delivery order from the Pizza Hut web site using an online coupon. I've ordered from this exact same online coupon before. The only difference was that last night I elected to pay with cash instead of with my usual debit card payment method.

After waiting an entire hour for the pizza and Pepsi to be delivered (it was a combo coupon for a large one topping pizza and two-litter of pop), I was greeted by a very rude delivery driver. He was tall with dark, long stringy and greasy hair. He wore jeans and a stained up sweatshirt (His appearance alone was deplorable--especially his unkept hair, which looked unprofessional and even on the verge of being sleazy--but I would have overlooked it if the next events had not transpired.)

My son is who initially went to the door. He paid the driver in cash and the driver gave him the pizza and pop. My son closed the door and the guy walked away. But in less than 45 seconds, the guy was back on the doorstep ringing my doorbell again.

I need a coupon for this, he said when I opened the door. And how did you order this? Online or by telephone? I said that I ordered online and that I never before was asked to give a coupon for it. The coupon is online and you click on it in order to receive that special price when youre placing your order.

Well, youre either going to give me a coupon or Im going to have to charge you 4 more dollars, the guy said.

Outraged, I told him to wait while I pulled up the coupon on my computer.

The door was still open while I went into the next room to start my computer back up. (I had shut it down after placing my order.) My two-year-old daughter was standing in the doorway. It was very cold outside and I could feel cold air pouring into my house. She is just getting over a cold and the last thing she needs is to take more cold, so I told the man that I was going to have to close the door and would be with him as soon as I could print off the coupon.

Not even 30 seconds passed by and the man was again ringing my doorbell. I have other orders to deliver and youre just going to have to produce that coupon now, give me the pizza back, or else pay me the extra money, he said when I opened the door back up.

In shock by his bluntness and rudeness, I told the man that he was just going to have to leave then. I said that I had the pizza and he had the cash, and he would have to just leave my property if he wasnt going to wait a few minutes for me to print off a coupon -- which I shouldnt even have to print off in the first place.

He then said that if I didnt give him the extra money right then or the pizza back that he was going to report the pizza as being stolen.

I completely lost my patience at that point and told him to wait a d**n minute while I went into the other room to print off the information from my computer. I also told him that I was going to report him for this and that his behavior was beyond what is acceptable.

The man judgmentally said that I shouldnt cuss in front of my kids. He also said this as his eyes shifted around my kitchen, focusing on a television set and other furniture items. He never once made eye contact with me when I was trying to talk to him. He just continued to look around my house at my household belongings, which was also rude and was even making me feel uneasy--as if the man was really here to case my house so he could come back and steal from me.

My computer had just booted up at this point in time. I told him to wait and said he could even wait in his car until I got the coupon printed. I still had to pull up the Pizza Hut web site before I could print off the coupon information. I closed the door again and went back into the computer area. I had just arrived in front of my computer when the man again rang my doorbell.

I need the money NOW! he said very sternly when I opened the door again. Im giving you one minute to print the coupon off or else Im reporting this as stolen! He threatened me. Either produce the coupon this moment, pay me 4 more dollars, or give the pizza back.

Now bear in mind here that I had already paid him in cash the exact amount I was told to pay online when I placed my order. So I did not owe him anything else. I had NOT stolen anything and was now only being harassed because he was insisting upon a coupon that was online and that I had never before been asked to print off when I placed an order after clicking on the online coupon. He was further harassing me with his attitude and unwillingness to give me sufficient time to produce his coupon. His attitude was absolutely abusive.

By this point I had totally lost my respect for the man. All he was doing was harassing me and was basically making it impossible for me to even get a coupon printed off to give him. He again pressed for the coupon, extra money, or the return of the Pizza. I told him I was not giving him the pizza back until he first gave me my money back. He hesitated for a brief moment and then dug into his pocket and counted out the money I had just paid him. He even had a tone about the amount, a tone that communicated without extra words the he was angry that that he was giving me my cash back. Heres your money back! He said as he threw my money at me.

I went back into the house, grabbed the pop and literally threw it onto the porch. The pizza was in the living room by this time. I went to the living room to get the pizza and then handed it to the man. (I did not throw the pizza, just the pop.) I told him to leave my property that moment or I was going to call the police.

So you can visualize how quickly all of the events transpired, approximately five minutes had passed since the man first rang my doorbell to deliver the pizza up until the moment when the pizza was returned to him. It takes my computer a few minutes to boot up. My computer had just booted up when he was giving me the one minute to produce the coupon ultimatum. And most of those five minutes in time were spent with the man continually ringing my doorbell and keeping me from even being able to print off a coupon.

In other words, he didnt even give me sufficient time to pull up my computer and print off the coupon! I think that what he was really doing was harassing me to pay him more money. He was 100% belligerent and was not at all patient enough to wait for something that he claimed he needed.

After he left, I immediately tried to call the Pizza Hut store where the pizza delivered from. I was instead sent into a call queue for all the Pizza Hut stores in the area and was placed on hold for about 20 minutes. During this time period, I tried to find another Pizza Hut number in the telephone book. None of them dialed into any of the stores. I then looked up the customer service number on the Pizza Hut web site (it says For Urgent Matters [call] 1-800-948-8488). I dialed this number on my cell phone and was placed on hold with them for another 10 minutes before I could even talk to a person about what had just happened. (The fact that I could not immediately talk to someone about what had just happened only added to the issue and made me even more offended by Pizza Hut than I was before.)

I finally got to talk to a customer service representative at the Urgent Matters phone number. I told her everything that had happened. She took down my name, phone number, and address. She then wanted to send me out a coupon for a free pizza. I told her that that was not going to hack it for me.

This experience was so deplorable that I have no desire to ever order from Pizza Hut again. So then the customer service representative offered me two free pizzas. Now bear in mind that I have NO pizza anymore. I had waited an entire hour for the pizza to be delivered initially. I then faced the WORST delivery experience of my life and was treated so rudely that I felt that I had no choice but to give the food back to the delivery driver. I told her that she would have to give me 10 free pizzas before I would even begin to feel compensated, and even then it wouldnt be good enough. (This is not an issue where an ingredient was missing from my order, my food was too cold, or I had a hair on my food. This is a case where I was totally mistreated by a delivery driver and had my food taken from me because he was not willing to wait for something that I never before was even asked to provide.)

I then said that what I needed was for this issue to be addressed tonight. I needed this mans manager to be contacted and for me to get a call back to let me know that this issue was taken care of and that nothing like this would ever happen again. I also told her that I felt so uneasy by this guy--who literally threatened me (saying he would report the food as being stolen), looked around my house (which made me feel violated), and was so rude that I dont even feel safe enough to order from Pizza Hut again. I do not ever want this man on my doorstep again and will definitely call the police if he ever does return to my door in the future!

The customer service representative was not at all understanding of my situation. She even threatened me with, well, if you want a call back, then I cant send you any free pizza coupons. As if what I wanted was free pizza! What I wanted was for Pizza Hut to reprimand this man for such deplorable behavior and to have some type of assurance that I would never again be treated with such contempt. When I asked to speak with someone that moment, the representative hung up on me!

No customer should EVER be treated so rudely by anyone working at Pizza Hut! And I have to add now that after the customer service representative hung up on me, I will definitely not ever be a repeat customer again!

At first, only the driver could be blamed for such horrible treatment. Now that I have been mistreated by a customer service representative--who by job description is supposed to make customers feel better about Pizza Hut and who is supposed to resolve issues--I now see this entire situation as a corporate matter that goes all the way back to the main headquarters. This company does not effectively train employees to treat customers respectfully, professionally, or with the kind of quality care that keeps loyal customers coming back in the future.

Let me try to summarize how horrible this situation was. I was mistreated by a delivery worker after waiting an hour for food when I was hungry and have two kids to feed. My food was then taken away from me because the driver harassed me to print off a coupon that was on the web site and that I had NEVER before had to print off after clicking on it. He would not give me time to even print it off. He threatened me and tried to accuse me of stealing something. He then left me with no choice but to give the food back. Then I was not even able to call someone locally to discuss what had happened. I had to wait on hold for 20 minutes and then another 10 minutes just to talk to someone. Then, instead of the true issues being addressed and the customer service worker making me feel better about the situation, I was hung up on by the customer service representative because I insisted on this matter being addressed the same night.

Because I have a car with a flat tire, I had to call a relative to bring us dinner. We were not able to eat until 2 hours after the Pizza Hut incident, which was 3 hours after I initially placed my online order. I spent most of my evening trying to get this matter addressed by Pizza Hut--all to no avail.

Does Pizza Hut really feel this much contempt for its customers?

Pizza Hut will find that this once regular customer is now no longer a customer. Why? Because Pizza Hut hires inept workers who harass loyal customers, do not immediately address valid issues, and actually leave the customer more upset than they were to begin with. (And those free pizza coupons were just an insult! I needed to hear something that would rebuild trust. Not totally destroy it. I needed this issue to be addressed IMMEDIATELY with the local manager.)

I know what happened to me is not typical. I've been a regular customer of Pizza hut for years. I've never experienced anything like what happened last night with ANY company before. But because I was treated so horribly by Pizza Hut employees last night, I now see the company in a whole new light. Take my advice. DO NOT EVER PATRONIZE THIS COMPANY. You may regret if if you face a situation comparable to the one I faced last night, a situation that led to anguish, extended hunger, and a still unresolved status.

I am employed by Pizza Hut as a manager and am totally shocked at some of the "employee" comments here. First of all yes, all coupons have to be printed out at the time of tender. However, I personally know that 5 out of 7 days a week I am in my store closing and signing several "non" coupon promo and allowance tickets. What is one more? This driver abused the customer which in my store would have gotten him a suspension leading to termination. Another thing, who gives Pizza Hut employees the right to judge our customers? These customer expect to get excellent service and that is why we recieve a paycheck. They do not get paid to eat our food. Second, whether the customer before this one abused the driver, what right does that give the driver to abuse the customer?None. Third, the driver forfeited a twenty dollar sale for a four dollar off coupon which does not make sense either. In my opinion, you all need to take a class in customer service and CHAMPS (Do you even know what CHAMPS is)? The driver that took this order should be fired and yes this customer should be compensated in some way. There is no excuse for this type of behavior and for the employees commenting in support of this driver because of one lost tip, they are clueless. You fail to mention all of the over tippers. In fact, the drivers make more money that the managers with their minimum (or plus) wage, the reimbursement fees and tips. In the end, you all will be the ones who are sitting back complaining when your stores cut your hours..wondering why you cant get more than what you are getting...it will be because of the lack of customer service because eventually the customers will leave and then who will pay your wages much less tip you two dollars?! I am totally glad you are not in the same state as I am because I am embarrassed to know that there are Pizza Hut employees who support customer harrassment. I hope the customer doesn't give up on Pizza Hut all together because there are other better locations that will give her the customer satisfaction that she deserves.

I agree with you KSWV. Stanley you're a hypocrite in every sense! She was treated badly and you're defending a business who tolerates it. Like I said previously I used to be a delivery driver and NEVER treated a customer like that EVER! And online coupons are never always required. Stanley stop being a complete hypocrite and judging someone that you don't even know, calling her trailer trash and what not because of her grammar. I saw some grammar mistakes on your part, you don't see me calling you trailer trash. Get a life.

And you Stanley clearly need to mind your own business. Who are you to tell her what to feed her kids and how to parent them? I am a clinical registered dietitian and am here to tell you that there's nothing wrong with feeding your children pizza in moderation. It provides starch from the bread, a vegetable serving from the tomato sauce and dairy from the cheese, not to mention protein and possibly other toppings that may provide essential nutrients. Don't lecture a woman you don't even know on topics which you don't have a clue. She was obviously treated badly. Nothing about her post says she is trailer park trash. Back off. She didn't do anything to you!

My first reaction to this long-winded complaint of yours (yawn, yawn) is, first of all, no words I say in this rebuttal can describe the anger I personally feel, over knowing you have posted a complaint here without merit, any adequate proof or any support of similar complaints which would warrant agreeable responses of your concern toward Pizza Hut. You say you sent your son to go pay for the pizza. How did you initially know who was at the front door? Don't you know children (who are raised right) are taught never to answer the door to strangers? I don't care if it was the pizza delivery man, as you say. The fact is, it's your responsibility to answer the door, not theirs. Then you say you were "greeted by a very rude delivery driver." Yet you didn't say in what manner he was initially rude. Instead, you went straight into his physical description, which is very vague and ambiguous concerning his alleged "rudeness." That doesn't tell me anything about how rude he allegedly was. There are two sides to every story. So what did you say to trigger his rudeness, if any? And why would you feel the need to be outraged when the delivery driver returns to your front door and asks for something which you should have supplied him with in the first place? Are you outraged or angry because he was doing his job? In other words, you tried to trick him and you were caught. Yet, because of his appearance, which you construed to be no more than room temperature level in intelligence, he was quick to see you tried to scam him. like I said, you were angry because you were caught trying to stiff him. But let's get back to the children for a second, shall we? It's one thing to send one of the kids to the door to pay for the pizza, which you couldn't do yourself because you were too embarrassed to the delivery driver a tip, but it's another thing to leave a two-year old child "standing in the doorway," as you said, with a complete stranger. If you had all these suspicions about his alleged potential future burglary activities (which is biased and prejudicial to say the very least, based solely on his physical appearance and clothing description) then why you leave your two-year old daughter alone on the doorstep (I don't care for however long) with this suspected felonious person? And how often do you feed the children pizza? Is this an daily practice with child nutrition on your part, or are the children of the correct weight, as (hopefully) their mother is? You then said "the man judjementally said I shouldn't cuss in front of my kids." He's right. You shouldn't. Is cussing in front of your children a daily occurrence? It was interesting to note, that it took the pizza delivery man to point this out. Then you say his eyes shifted around your kitchen, "focusing on a television set and other furniture items......He just continued to look around my house at my household belongings, which was also rude and was even making me feel uneasy--as if the man was really here to case my house so he could come back and steal from me." Did he return to burglarize your house? I think not. So, let me ask you, who's being judgmental now? So, you see, this is a long-winded complaint about nothing. If you do not like the way Pizza Hut does business, as in making sure the pizza delivery guy follows company procedure and collects every required coupon on their route, then you have the right to simply go buy your food elsewhere. Nobody is forcing you to do business with Pizza Hut. When originally reading your complaint, I'm assuming it was written by some trailer trash welfare recipient, who's possibly immensely overweight and a "Jerry Springer-type" character who does nothing but looks for reasons to complain against hard working individuals all day. In future, I suggest you pay more attention to your children, to their needs and nutritional requirements, as well as their attentive behavior, not to the sanitary conditions of the stranger at the door. This is in response to "Foos" you're literally full of it!

#6Consumer Suggestion

Mon, January 19, 2009

Okay so this is response to the woman who was mistreated and the manager "Foos". I used to be a delivery driver and worked hard to become and assistant manager as well. Not ONCE did I treat a customer like that! Yeah I got stiffed more than a few times, and yes, phones ring off the hook, people can be stingy, you use your own gas and mileage, but to treat people like that? What if they order again and see you at their door, you think they're going to just "forget" the incident?? I mean I admit there were a few customers that I just dreaded going to but I got over it. You're so full of yourself, no customer should ever be treated like that. As for drivers being stiffed, there are tons of reasons as to why. She said the car had a flat tire and a relative had to bring them food, do you even know if it was HER money?? She could have borrowed it, she could have been strapped for cash, she may not have had enough in her bank account, etc. Seriously weigh out the possibilities. If I had gotten treated like that, ma'am I wouldn't have just thrown the soda out I would have thrown the pizza at him too, and then suckerpunched him for harrassment. I am not afraid when it comes down to it, and I am a woman. Yeah, a woman who used to deliver pizza. Or I would have just kept the pizza, there would have been a phone call involved or police but I would have told them exactly what happened, I would have called the police before he even left, or called Pizza Hut. Let him report him stolen, how is he going to explain the extra money in his pocket. Oh and Foos another thing, he gave her exact change back but you don't know if she stiffed or gave him a tip and he kept the tip. I don't order from Pizza Hut all that much, but I definitely understand your reasoning not to ever again. After what you went through with the driver and the customer service rep. I would have had a lawyer down someone's throat, that or my fist. Besides, I delivered for Papa Johns, they're A LOT better when it comes to customer service!! I don't anymore, but I used to, and let me tell you, if I would have done that or any one of my co-workers and you would have called the store, yeah I admit the phones would be ringing off the hook, and usually the managers help with making orders so they're busy too, you'd be put on hold, but once you talked to someone about everything, that person would have been fired on the spot!!! I would definitely never go there again after that, I am sorry you had to experience something like that and hope you never have to again. As for you Foos, you have one hell of an attitude, first you try to explain calmly about the business and everything which was polite AT FIRST, then your other two posts, come on YOU'RE the one that needs to grow up, and on top of that go back to training and re-learn how to treat your customers and what professionalism is, because you obviously forgot all your training!!!

See here is the thing, don't order pizza over the internet. You need to call someone and talk to an actual human being to ensure you have everything you need like coupons. Im sorry for your mistreatment but it IS company policy to print off coupons.. My advice. order over the phone, be social, and tip well.

You paid him exact change -- you STIFFED him. It's easy to overlook a coupon, but when someone sends their child to pay because their too ashamed to look a driver in the eye knowingly being a cheapskate, those are the moments when one can decide to be a stickler for the rules. What also baffles me is that you "closed the door" because the cold air would affect your daughter. So, you basically left the pizza man on the doorstep in the dark and cold without a tip. I'd have pestered you for the coupon too! Lesson you should learn -- Pay gratuity, and people will let you slide on things.

Do you read the words on the pizza hut website when you order, or just click away mindlessly? It explicitely states that you must print out the coupon to get the deal. You should be quite happy that drivers and even managers have chosen to not pester you with it -- the one time they follow procedure and ask you for it, you pitch a fit? He looked around your house? Big deal. Would it be better if he stared directly at you, whereupon you would accuse him of undressing you with his eyes? It's pizza. You were given a discount because you claimed to have a valid coupon, but could not present it at the time of purchase. People like you who claim like a fifteen dollar order amounts you to groveling, fellatio and more are simply stupid, and the reason people in menial jobs don't CARE. You are entitled to a pizza, not asskissing.

As a employee and a manager with Pizza hut I can understand your feelings about your treatment. First I have to say you have to keep in mind that Pizza Hut has both corp. owned stores and private owned franchises. I myself started as a driver and have worked hard and moved up the ranks and can speak with a open view. As a driver you put your self at risk everytime you pick up a order and head out to take it to someones home whom you have never met, you get paid min wage use your own car and gas, and deal with the best and worst of the people out there. A driver is just like the waiter that serves you when you go out to eat, they work for and count on those tips to pay their bills and maintain their car so they can keep working (avg driver drives 2-3k miles a month, gas 3.15 a gal oil change 30-50 bucks ) and in my home town which is 90% middle and upperclass there has been 7 robberys of pizza drivers in 2 months where they get beat up and for what ..... less than 20 bucks ...in Va just last yr a driver was shot and killed for less than 20 bucks and a 13.00 pizza sitting in his car in a driveway by someone hidden in a customers bushes, just this week two more robberys, 1 out of the 9 was one of our guys. Also I am sure when the pizza left the store it was hot and flat in the box, and I know we replace alot of pizzas that slide around, picture your box of pizza sitting in your car seat after you pick it up yourself, a car pulls out in front of you , you hit your breaks and opps box slides to the floor , you grab it and hope for the best did you mean for it to happen?. And from being a manager I cant tell you how many calls we get from people who get a "wrong pizza" or its not what they thought it was supposed to be and they want a replacement, our policy is to make it right so I say no big deal I will make you a fresh pizza , send it out and pick up the wrong one, and 9 times out of ten thats not good enough , Biggest reason we hear is "well we were hungry and ate it anyways but give me a full credit or refund my money" . We also get called and cussed out for late pizzas and wrong pizzas from people it turns out didnt even order from pizzahut but another pizza company. Picture yourself dealing with 200 to 800 pizza orders a day and not making a mistake it can and does happen but we try to fix it and make you happy. And durring dinner rush { 4:30 to 8:30 pm } You have 4 or 5 phone lines ringing off the hook and everyone orders a pizza their way, that could be 50 to 300 pizzas in 4 hrs. On avg from the time you place a order till its cut and boxed it can take 10 to 15 min, then the driver comes in gets cashed out and dispatched with your order and at least 2 others that all want it NOW has to drive to each location fighting rush hour traffic, hand you your pizza collect money, give change and move on to the next. {try driving around your town from your home durring this time to 3 places park and get out of your car at each of them and time yourself } And when it comes to internet orders it can take them longer to come to the correct location than it would if you called the order in yourself, and the online coupons can be used over the phone and yes you MUST print out the coupon to get the deal. There are many discounts online that your local store may not even know about. Im not saying your treatment was worthy but just remember that you are one person and there is no telling how the person before you treated the employee before they got to you and if you were miss treated I myself am sorry. One last thing to try and keep in mind, the 1-800 number on the box is a good service BUT it is through a private company hired by Pizza Hut to manage calls both good and bad, and it can take weeks before that info gets to the correct people in your area. Again I myself am sorry for your mistreatment and hope at some point you will give the company another chance to serve you. Just hope this helps you see it from our side just a little..................
