Purchased a home last year from Place Builders and their title company of choice Metropolitan Title Company here in Mishawaka Indiana. Moved from Phoenix. On Social Security Disability, a fixed income. Builder and title company along with my approval from Quicken Loans put all paperwork together. I have property tax benefits to start in 2007, but they grossly underestimated property tax, that it is going to cause me to have to sell or lose my home. Payment was $879.48 and now will increase to $1446.48 per month. I found out information at assessors office that they have hundreds of complaints regarding these types of errors!

I want then to correct the problem. I was approved and qualified based on a payment I could afford not this type of problem that would cause major hardship for my family! I put over $40,000 into this new home from the sale of my home in Phoenix, Arizona. Now I risk losing it! Or buy the home for today's value, so I can pay the home off and move! I already have several health issues and this is putting me at risk too!

We understand Jeff is very upset for his tax situation.  Unfortunately, Place Builders has nothing to do with determining the value of the taxes.  The title company does a search to determine what taxes are owed by the county and what should be paid at closing.  At that time the home wasn't assessed.

What Jeff has failed to include in his defamation of Place Builders is the following.

1.) He didn't get his homestead and mortgage exemption on time when the title company advised him to do so.

2.) Place Builders compensated him for the taxes

3.) He didn't coordinate with his mortgage company to take out enough taxes when the home was closed.

4.) Since Indiana pays it taxes a year behind, Jeff had spent the money given to him by Place Builders and didn't have it when it came time to pay the taxes.

5.) He was allowed to move in prior to closing due to his circumstances and cross country move.

6.) We discounted the house for him.

Again, this is statewide issue with the way taxes are done and calculated in the State of Indiana.  It is unfair that Place Builders is being blamed for something that we can not control.  There was nothing wrong with the quality or construction of the home.
