I am one of the partners for this company (Paul's Paving) and was on the job from start to finish. The simple truth is that the initial bid WAS lower than the final bill but that was because the customer changed the amount and type of work to be done several times. He changed the square footage to make the project bigger and also chose to go with more concrete than originally agreed. He almost doubled the amount of concrete work.
I personally had to re write the contract for this job 3 times. Each time the customer did sign it and agree to everything on it. I also have the final bill that was signed by the customer a week before we finished the project. What he also does not mention is the amount of extra work we did for free. Like removing 50 ft' of fence, taking down 4 trees and hauling all that away and a bunch of other stuff that had nothing to do with our project.
This customer was new to managing a project of this size and in his defense it is not easy. There are sometimes things that come up that you cannot foresee, but when the customer makes the job bigger and adds more work the price is obviously going to go up. At the end of job the customer still owed us$5,000 which he did not pay. We felt terrible that he thought he was being taken for a ride so we did not pursue any legal action. I just want anyone who reads this to know that we do not do business in the manner as portrayed in the persons complaint.
Like any reputable company, everything is in writing before we start and does not change UNLESS THE CUSTOMER CHANGES IT. As far as not paying our concrete contractor, that is a straight lie. Anyone knows that there would have been a lien placed or some other further action against this person and he would have included it in his ridiculous report. This customer is an intelligent man and if he thought he was so over charged and ripped off he would have filed a lawsuit. I hope this clears things up for anyone looking to hire our company or just runs across this report.
Thanks for reading.
