In January on 2003 I had my Geo Tracker engine rebuilt. At that time I purchased the Premium 2000 plus warrantee that I bought through the rebuilder. Three years later and with only 22,000 miles on the engine it went out. I filed a claim with Premium 2000 along with all of my receipts for oil changes as required. They had me tow the vehicle to a different shop to find out why the engine failed. It turns out that the reason it failed was that crankshaft broke. When the engine was rebuilt (not know by myself) the crankshaft was welded and those welds had failed. This particular shop that inspected the car stated that they do not weld crankshafts, however they have a specific machine for that purpose and weld crank shafts for other rebuilders. It turns out some shops use welded crankshafts and some do not. There is no set standard in the industry.

My policy specifically states that if the engine fails because of crankshaft failure I am covered. Now the rub, according to Premium 2000 they denied my claim because of, The product added to your vehicle is not designed to protect against failures resulting from an improper rebuild as is described in our agreement with the selling engine remanufacturer. There several problems with their position.

1. The rebuilder specifically sent to Premium 2000 a request to show them in their documentation where in their agreement it prohibits the use of welded crankshafts. To this Premium 2000 had not responded to them.

2. Their of my claim from an inspection from a shop that in the industry it is not normal policy to weld crankshafts when in fact that shop itself does weld crankshafts for other rebuilders.

In my opinion this is not a reputable company and from my perspective is a fraud and a scam.
