I have tried and tried to get this company to honor price quotes without success. On February 27, 2006, I spent about two hours being ping-ponged from Prescription Pathway customer service and affiliate PharmaCare and being put on hold.

On February 3, 2006, I filled a prescription for a 60 tablets of generic painkiller at Brooks Pharmacy on North Avenue in Burlington, VT. When the price ($3.97) came out to be more than twice what I had been quoted ($1.55), I did not pick it up. I first contacted Prescription Pathway and PharmaCare on February 4, and my complaint remains unresolved. I was just told by Suzie of Prescription Pathway to call back PharmaCare, and I refused because I do not believe they would solve my grievance because I had already spoken with Jeff from there once today.

I have saved multiple HTML price quotes from the Medicare Prescription Drug Plan Finder going back to December 2005 as well as a recent member price quote from PharmaCare. I was quoted $1.55 by Medicare Prescription Drug Plan Finder (aka the "Tool") as my 25% share, and my 25% share per the PharmaCare copay checker would be $8.17 divided by four, or about $2.04. Both quotes are significantly lower than the price charged at the pharmacy.

Prescription Pathway and PharmaCare used the red herrings of my allegedly not being out of my deductible phase as well as pharmacies, even within the same chain, being allowed to charge whatever they want. Then what is the whole point of buying prescription insurance when they are paid to negotiate a price for members? I also spoke with Medicare hotline supervisor Kelly Lyons on December 27 and was told in making my plan selection to go by the "gap" prices in comparing the costs of various plans. She said Medicare would stand by these "gap" prices.

So I guess I am looking for a little bit of enforcement. Medicare needs to make the plans honor their quotes. And if they won't as evidenced by my complaint being forwarded to CMS on February 6 by my state's Medicaid agency, then I was hoping someone else would hold these companies accountable.
