Preston Cross Hotel Xmas Meal Rip Off -Terrible Meal -Overpriced, Internet
Four of us were not wanting to cook for our xmas meal 2012 and so we looked for somewhere local to go and to pay what we thought would be a resonable price. We found this hotel (Preston Cross) and their website looked very nice so we booked 4 places for 65 per head.
When we booked i was sent a menu by email and asked by them to mark our requirements and phone them in at least 2 weeks before xmas. I went ahead and got the information together
Just before i sent this information i received by post a receipt for my purchase from them. They had enclosed a menu which was different from the one i had already received and also had addressed it to a different name! So i needed to call them to check that they had the correct information. and then get in touch again with the others to again mark down their preferences for the meal, which i did, and then phoned it in, about 3 weeks before 25th december. So far just a bit annoyed at their inefficiency, but forgave them and looking forward to meal.
It was around the 20th december that i recieved a phone call from them again asking for our choices again as they had lost the order!! I was getting a bit concerned now.... very fawlty towerish!!
Well on the day, the food was absolutley terrible, I had fois grass which turned out to be a slice of a square loaf conglomeration of something or other, dry tastless, with a bit of wilted lettuce. The turkey was reconstuted, tasteless veg. and gravy 2 roast potatoes (they weren't too bad) non of the nice trimmings like parsnips. Oh it was terrible.!! Then the christmas pudding was about one and half inches thick 3 ins diameter straight out of a microwave with a sauce that tasted of petrol!! the coffee was ok and a truffle. I would have expected to pay about 8 for this meal at a cafe!! None of us wanted to draw attention to this while we were there as we each just wanted a good xmas and not ruin it for the other
Our dissapointement was topped off on the way out as the manager asked for 10 for the wine! We were asked if we wanted wine when we sat down and thought it was part of the meal < only two of us drank anyway but our glass was filled and i didnt mind when they poured it as i thought it was with the meal.
All in all this was a really dissapointed experience from begiining to end, and all for 190 !!! I will never go there again , i complained to the manager who didnt care much, i left feeling as though we had all been ripped off, and since 65 a head may not seem much to some- to us it was a lot to fork out and save for for us, and the Preston Cross Hotel took us for a ride.
