I read a comparison of credit reporting services, this looked like what I needed at a good price. Went to the web site to create an account. I entered credit card information and recevied an error:
Please verify the following information before we continue with your request.
I was stunned, fearing my account had been hacked, I logged onto my credit card site only to find in fact, a charge had been submitted, a temporary pending charge as follows:
Trans Date | Type | Description | Amount | |||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
03/10/2014 | Pending | MVQ*PRIVACYM |
$1.00 |
I called the 800 number, told the call center rep I wanted my credit card info delete. I got a discussion that my account had not been created, the pending charge is standard, blah blah blah. I told him, my isssue is not with the pending charge, my issue is that I received a message that the credit card number could not be processed, when in fact it was processed, and I want my credit card info to be deleted. He was stuck on the script, I asked for a supervisor, and spoke with Keisha. She has the same script, the credit card number pending charge is standard, it "drops off" after the account is validated. I told her same story, I don't care about the $1.00 charge, I care about the storage of my credit card number and want assurances its been wiped from your database. She told me, credit card number is not stored. I build call center systems, and know better. I asked her, how do you bill then, by magic? Of COURSE you store the credit card number! I asked if Privacy Matters or a 3rd party perform the billing, her needle was stuck on "pending charge drops off we don't keep credit card data". Apparently this is billing by magic. I have a dispute on the charge, will watch this closely as I have seen numerous complaints that this company tends to bill without cause.
