Why in the hell are you doing business with Providian in the first place?????? I have no sympathy at all for someone that does business with a credit card company that the financial industry ITSELF says is a rip off.

When you make your payment before the new period starts, of course, you making a payment for the last period. No credit card is any different. You have to watch your balances closely because when they have added the interest for the end of the period then and only then is it ok to make a payment. Also, the terms and agreement of the credit card companies will state how interest is accrued. Many credit card companies will not just let you make a payment for the balance at that time. It should be natural to assume there were some days that have accrued interest, particulary if you made any cash advances (which you did not state in your complaint). Credit card companies are in business to make money not give free money away which is what you are asking them to do by thinking you can just make a payment and that is all that you owe. Welcome to the 21st century.
