Well a little over two years ago I recived a credit card from Providan, my credit wasnt perfect and they knew it. Since then I've been able to buy a new car and my bills are now paid on time. But they sent me a letter telling me my interest rate was being uped to 30%! I called customer service and asked them if they could explain to me better whats going on, the lady on the phone told me she couldnt, but she could send another letter out. I told her to forget it, just cancel my card.

Well then she all of a sudden knew why and could somewhat answer my question. She just told me they check credit reports so often and base your interest rate by that! I tried telling her my credit is better now then it was when I first signed on, but she didnt seem to care to listen to me.. I told her to just can cancel my account.. She was not friendly at all to me.. She told me it was cancled, have a nice day and then hung up on me.

I just recived another letter from them telling me they based there decision on my credit report.. I just dont understand since my credit is better now then it was! I wrote the attorney general here in Kansas, her aid said basically theres nothing that can be about that. Credit card companys can charge what they want to if you have a balance with them. Kansas also has a credit card cap on interest rates of no more then 18% I thought that was to protect us the consumers, but attorney general says no!

Is there anything that can be done to protect consumers from such acts? Sorry this was long, but just had to get it out of my system.. Thanks for reading, if anyone can shed some light on this for me I would apprecitae it.

Apparently, they saw something on your credit report that they didn't like. Even though it'll cost you $10-$15, you should get a current copy of your report from TRW or Experian and review it to make sure it's accurate.
