We found our dog online through www.puppyforyou.com after finding him listed online under the nextdaypets website. Puppyforyou owners (Mother: Pam Franklin and son: Scott Franklin) sold us the dogs. We did not have any contact with Pam, only Scott and his girlfriend.

The description of our dog was this: "Adorable Goldendoodle male. Mom is an AKC registered golden retriever and dad is an AKC registered white standard poodle. Sammy is apricot in color and has a soft fluffy coat. He has the sweetest face and a wonderful personality. Minimal shedding and hypoallergenic. He has been Vaccinated, wormed, and Vet. checked. Just as healthy and happy as can be. Home raised."

This was a pack of lies! First of all no proof of either parents being AKC registered was shown or even talked about. Sammy's coat was NOT soft and fluffy. He was as mangey as can possibly be - full of knots and dirt along with a bunch of ticks and bugs! He was totally disgusting and he smelled so much like a dirty kennel!!!

His face may be sweet but we couldn't see it under all the hanging fur all over his rough dirty coat. As for personality - we have yet to see one. He has been with us over 5 weeks now and he is as scared as anything. He only lays down and cowers. Where is that 'wonderful personality' they talked about?

Shedding is not minimal...we had tumbleweeds all over the place for 2 weeks!!! We got him groomed and you wouldn't believe what came off of the poor little guy.

We got absolutely NO proof of any vaccinations... the only thing Scott would send us was an email (after we got him, and after we had to ASK for it) with a list of vaccines he got - but that's not proof at all. He lied about so much stuff, so we don't know what shots he actually was given. I had to call his vet in Kansas (which I should not have had to do) to ask them to send us the proof of neutering which we needed for our town's records and they did so, but there was nothing written down as far as costs etc. It was one piece of paper with the words neutered on it and a signature - that's it! We paid for the neutering so we should have been given proper medical papers immediately.

In the listing where he says 'wormed'...he should have said FULL OF WORMS!!! The poor thing was so sick from worms. When our vet took the stool sample he was shocked at how badly infested he was. I won't even tell you what came out of him days after he was dewormed at the vet!! He also had earmites horribly! We are STILL having to give him special medication for them. We clean his ears out faithfully - every day. He's had his ears flushed out two times. The vet said it was the worst case he's seen in a long time. His teeth were (and still are) a mess - they will need cleaning...over $300. just for that!

Vet checked??? Hmm, I doubt that at all. Maybe the vet looked at him to neuter him, but the weeks following he couldn't have been- if so then that vet needs to be looked into since the condition Sammy was in was deplorable. He should not have passed any sort of exam, that's for sure....especially to fly on an airplane!! Our vet looked him over thoroughly and had to do several things...shots, medications, cleaning, etc. etc. It cost us over $400. just to 'fix' what should NOT have been wrong with our dog.

Scott also said he was as happy and as healthy as can be. Another lie. He was extremely depressed and scared of every little thing - still is. We had a behavioral specialist come to the house for training and she said she's never seen a case so bad as this. She said he was in complete shut-down mode most likely from neglect!

Scott also said he was home raised. What's that supposed to mean??? Well, when we called him to inquire about Sammy, he said he was a wonderful dog who loved to play with tennis balls and was very well mannered etc. We told him we wanted a family dog we could take on walks and play with - especially for our kids. Well, the day (yes, the DAY) we were to head to the airport to pick up Sammy, Scott called us on the phone and said not to let Sammy out of his crate until we got him home because he does not do well on a leash - he's never been on one. WHAT???? We specifically said we wanted a dog we can go on walks with. Doesn't that usually require a leash?? It does around here! It's the law! Well, we tried a leash on him the first several nights at home and he totally freaked out on us and went crazy! It took us almost an entire week just to get him on a harness (collar was NOT going to work with him) and still he doesn't like it much. So, in my eyes, that was yet another lie. Why wait to tell us, why not just be up front from the start?

The day Sammy was to be sent to us (on an airplane - he came half way across the country) we changed our schedules all around to be able to pick him up. Scott doesn't call, he instead sends an email and says he wasn't going to send him. He said he wouldn't go to the airport for just one dog, he was going to wait until he could send 2 or 3 out at once. Well...we paid him for the trip already in full and changed our lives around - in a big way - but he didn't care. He said that it was too bad and he'd send him when he could. That is poor practice and is not professional. When we called him about it (right after getting the email) he was full of excuses - even when we offered to pay him extra to make the trip for us. The plane was scheduled to leave and arrive on time, so it was not a matter of the airplanes not being able to fly. His girlfriend got on the phone and was very rude to us as well. They both talked in circles around the whole thing!

We since have sent them several emails asking what's going on with Sammy since he was NOT the dog we paid for, (from their description both online and on the phone) and he has given us no direct answers for anything, just story after story how wonderful they are with their dogs. He then went on to tell me that his dogs are all outside 24/7 (that's not home raised then!) and that they have access to a building if they want it etc. We were never told all of this up front.

We put out so much extra money for this dog. The only reason we are doing this, is because we love him and feel so bad for where he came from. We wouldn't think of sending him back to them! We are giving our all to un-do what was done to him! We have to treat him more like a rescue dog than a new family pet. It's very sad. We paid for several medicines including steroid shots, Lyme disease shots, ear medicines, deworming, a grooming that cost a lot since there was so much 'damage' that they had to fix, and also for the behavior specialist which our vet highly recommended since his condition was so bad. Plus, as I already mentioned, we still need to pay for his teeth cleaning - the vet couldn't believe his age since his teeth are so bad.

I do not recommend you buying a dog from this "breeder" - who we are appropriately calling Mr. PuppyMill. They raise too many different types of dogs to truly be able to care for each and every one. It seems as if the dog we bought was one they couldn't sell (since they have too many) so he grew older and they neglected him. He was 16 months old when we got him. They have several dogs listed currently on nextdaypets that are older - PLEASE do not buy from them...they're most likely in the same state our dog is in!

Scott refuses to send us any compensation claiming that he didn't even make a cent on this dog - which goes to show that he's in it for the money!! No decent breeder would even mention the fact that they are making money on the sales of their beloved pets!!!!

If Scott puts a rebuttal here on this site, read it with caution and see the other person's listing that complained about him as well...seems like we were not the only unfortunate ones who bought a dog from them!!!!!

As the saying goes: Caveat emptor - LET THE BUYER BEWARE!!!

Stay away from any place you cant see where the pups are raised

#2Consumer Suggestion

Sat, April 26, 2008

The majority of these types places are puppymills. Stay away from pet stores. Stay away from an online just as you have expierenced. It is heart breaking. I checked into this site too a while ago. I was curious. I did not like what i was hearing. Very vauge answers and when I was ready for my puppy suddenly they had none. So be it, fine with me, as I was suspicious anyway. I have always had AKC collies. All mine have been bought and I went to their homes. I've seen where they were born, met both of the pups parents, saw where they slept and played. I watched them interact with their sibling puppies. That is how you buy a puppy. Always SEE the homes with your own eyes. What you have gotten is a puppymill puppy. EVERYTHING you have described is a classic example. I am so sorry for you as the happy puppy you had hoped to own has no doubt been a nightmare. I hope he will become healthier both phyiscally and emotionally as he becomes bonded and can count on your love. Good Luck! Cat
