My wife and I were members of the Daily 24 fitness in Eldersburg on the ridge rd location. First of all, they closed that location and we were not informed of the move whatsoever. We happened to see a similar named gym open at a later date (though payments were never halted) to a location in eldersburg at liberty rd.
After confirming they were the same gym, we canceled our member ship on July 3rd. We were informed that it takes 30 days to cancel a membership which seems ridiculous, but we did not complain. On and around the billing date of the normally scheduled July payment, we monitored our accounts and saw no charges so we figured we were in the clear. However, come August 2nd my wife was charged a monthly fee of $25 plus an additional charge of $20. Not expecting this, my wife ended up paying an overdraft charge of $35. I received on my account a monthly charge of $34 plus two additional $20 charges.
After numerous phone calls to various listed numbers went unanswered (including the ones currently listed on their website http://pure24fitness.com/) I went back to the establishment. The associate gave no explaination for the delay of the monthly charge. The associate said the $20 charge was an enhancement fee due on August 1st and since the membership was still within 30 days of cancellation the charge was correct. I voiced my displeasure and cannot comprehend how an enhancement fee applies to a pending cancellation.
The only charge he admitted to being incorrect was the 2nd additional $20 charge. In looking at his computer I told him I wanted it resolved right away but I had to go. He then attempted to offer me cash. I told him I did not want his cash I wanted a resolution.

I would like to point out some inconsistencies in the owners rebuttle:

1. "Its a enhancement, some clubs call reinstatement."

The words enhancement and reinstatement imply that a person is continuing membership. My wife and I cancelled BEFORE Aug 1st. We understand having to pay the monthly charge within the 30 days, but our membership status should have gone into a pending cancellation state where 'enhancement fees' or 'reinstatement fees' do not apply. Now maybe contractually this is legit, but common sense and good business practice would be to not charge this fee to members who are pending cancellation.

2. "There was a mistake with a $20 fee. Since I did remember them, I went in my pocket to give him the $20 dollars back. This is not standard because any other fitness center/healthclub would have NOT offered it back to him." "Most clubs would have NEVER offered him the money back. I did."

So here he admits there was a mistake in a $20 fee, then goes onto say that other clubs would not have 'offered' back the money? Really? So most other clubs when they make a mistake in billing just say 'whoops, sorry about that'. There is an admittant $20 mistake and the owner is trying to make it look like he's doing me a favor out of the good of his heart to give me MY money back? Then go onto say other clubs would not have fixed there own mistake? Anyone who can read can see the inherit contradiction.

3. "We stayed true to all the members when SHE closed the doors without even telling us. We then moved to a much nicer location and still have all the same loyal members. they seen what happened first hand. No one loss in that situation. All efts was stopped immediately until other location opened up"

Funny, my wife and I were never contacted when the doors closed either. And we were never contacted when the new place opened.... guess it was a secret. And I don't know what an 'efts' is but if the owner is trying to imply that payments were stopped until the new location opened, I have credit card statements showing that not 1 month of payments were missed.

4. "This young man can call me and get $20 bucks whenever he wish."

As I told the owner before, I do not want his money. The $20 charge was an admittant mistake. It should be taken care of and credited back to my account without any further action on my part.

5. I still never got an answer on why the monthly charge was taken out in august instead of the normal July payment date (This is the monthly charge during our 30 day cancellation which we understood, but now have issue with because of this timeline). All other payments were consistently taken out between the 11th and 13th of the month. Our last payment should have been taken out July 11th - 13th as we expected.

The young man came into the establishment and claimed he put in his cancellation. I asked when, he said June. After pulling up his info we found it was July. On all cancellations it states there is a 30day process and you will be charge if it falls within that date. All clubs states this. Its a standard practice. He was charged what he was suppose to pay. There was a mistake with a $20 fee. Its a enhancement, some clubs call reinstatement. Because his wife was a a total different contract they both was charged. This is also standard. They are registered with different last names. Since I did remember them, I went in my pocket to give him the $20 dollars back. This is not standard because any other fitness center/healthclub would have NOT offered it back to him. I have managed clubs for 15 years before becoming owner of one. I try to be more understanding than corporate healthclub chains. I am in touch with my members and always try to do the personal thing, which is not always the right business practice. Most clubs would have NEVER offered him the money back. I did.

As far as the other business venture with the Daily24fitness, A club was in trouble. We tried to help and change it to a coed gym. The lady ripped us off. We stayed true to all the members when SHE closed the doors without even telling us. We then moved to a much nicer location and still have all the same loyal members. they seen what happened first hand. No one loss in that situation. All efts was stopped immediately until other location opened up.. This young man can call me and get $20 bucks whenever he wish.

Thanks
