If I was in your position, I would just go ahead and cancel my credit card. Yes, it's a hassle to do that, but sometimes it's worth the hassle. Explain to the card company that your number has gotten into the wrong hands and you don't know what they plan to do with the information, so you'd like to cancel and be issued a new one. This would be worth the inconvenience--as you would not worry about them charging your card in the future. I've had to do this, and it was worth waiting for a few days for the new card. Good Luck.
