My fiance and I bought a puppy from Betsy at ranchpuppy.com. My fiance came home with an adorable white "peekapoo" or some such thing but the pup was listless and had thrown up quite a bit in the car on the way home. He continued to wretch (sp?) through the night and we brought the dog back to the "breeder" the next morning who claimed she knew the pup had been ill but thought he had "recovered". She offered many apologies and we exchanged the sick dog for an adorable 2 month old Pomeranian we named Teddy. For the pure bred dog, despite our initial trouble, we were charged extra.

Our family of 5 loved and played with Teddy for two days. We fell deeply in love with the spirited young pup. Then, on the third day, Teddy became listless and suffered from horrible, bloody diarhea. Very much attached to Teddy, we certainly didnt take him back but to the Vet who diagnosed Teddy with Parvo which was contracted at the "breeders". Gory (and I assure you they were) details aside, Teddy died tonight after spending the past 4 days in the hospital.

Betsy at RanchPuppy is not a breeder. She lives on a farm in Bakersfield and runs a puppy mill. The dogs all congregate together with no sanitation evidently. In fact, when we called Betsy to inform her of Teddy's diagnosis, she didnt even know what Parvo was or what her responsibility should be! She offered to return our purchase payment but trailed off when it reimbursement for the $2000 vet bill was brought up. Now Teddy is dead. He died in our arms. And the worst part is, without doubt, RanchPuppy is nothing more than a mass puppy grave (given the extremely contagious nature of Parvo and the unsanitary condition in which all dogs there congregate together).

Needless to say, we should NEVER have been sold a sick dog. We should have NEVER been sold a virally infected dog in replacement of the first. A breeder is OBLIGATED to know the health of their dogs BEFORE selling them. And RanchPuppy.com should most definitely NOT be used by ANYONE who is looking to bring a happy, healthy dog into their family. Only those, we now know, who seek a relatively inexpensive and quickly attainable dog with no questions asked or allowed should frequent this puppy mill.

Reading my previous words now fills me with the utmost regret. When I wrote them I hadnt yet given Betsy a chance to right the wrong and boy do I regret doing so. In anger and haste did I write my report and I am saddened that ROR is so dogmatic in its refusal to retract. Though the death of Teddy was tradgic, it was not the breeder's fault. I have since viewed the ranch and the puppies there are all in fine condition. The fact is, Parvo is responsible for 80% of puppy deaths and ever so unfortunately our puppy happened to contract this virus. What this website is all about is informing consumers so let me inform everyone that while accidents, mistakes, missteps, and acts of G-d can happen anywhere and everywhere in business, what matters most is the response of the business owner in making things right for their customer. I didnt realize what little faith I had in humanity, let alone business, until Betsy cried her grief to us and not only reimbursed costs for the vet and original purchase price, she further offered to BUY us a puppy from another store if it made us feel more comfortable. The desire to help was 100% there and 100% genuine and I truly was and still am blown away. If only I could buy everything from Betsy! She really went above and beyond when even the law did not require so. And I hadnt even invoked the law! She came to these remunerations all on her own! Honestly, this unfortunate transaction happened for a reason. It restored my faith in America to an extent. Hyperbole aside, there really are two kinds of people in the world: good and bad. Betsy and her family are good people. Plain and simple. I would encourage anyone and everyone to go to her for their next puppy without hesitation. If you have ANY questions or concerns about my story please feel free to contact me.
