We bought two of these units (RCA DVD/VCR combo players/recorders) on sale at Walmart. We had problems with both watching DVD's or video tapes and even more difficulty trying to record either method. The units would freeze up, requiring that they be unplugged, repeatedly. Both units did the exact same thing. Walmart would not honor their sale and we were told we had to deal with the manufacturer.

We contacted RCA and were told to mail the units to El Paso, Texas. Delivery confirmation showed the units were received on 9/25/2008. When I emailed the company requesting a status update I got this response:

Dear RCA Customer,

Audiovox Electronics does not handle this product. The RCA home audio and video product line was purchased by Alco Electronics. Please contact their customer support center at 1-800-721-4007 or 1-800-821-5875 or by e-mail to [email protected].

Sincerely,

Ed.

So, we emailed the address provided. We were told to send the units in for replacements. They were received by the company on And emailed. And called. The number we keep calling is Thompsons. They did get the units. They first told us to wait up to 31 business days for our replacements to be sent out. Now that the time is up they say they are out of the replacement units. Naturally we didn't even want replacement units because these units are obviously junk. But at this point we'd take them. If they'd send them.

Now, today, 11/1/08, we're told since we've waited over the 31 days we're being fast-tracked to some processing unit that is supposedly a little higher on the food chain. I highly doubt we're ever going to get any type of satisfaction. My husband is swearing we'll never shop at Walmart or buy the RCA brand again. I think it is just awful how this company can do this and pretty disgusting that Walmart will sell products that they don't have any intention of standing behind.

We also bought a DRC8335 model from Walmart. It was a HUGE piece of crap. We bought a two year warranty on the model from Walmart and they would not give us a refund when we took it back. They also said we would have to deal with the manufactorer. So, we called RCA and found out we needed to deal with Thomson Electronics, and after calling them were told to send in the defective unit. We did that and after about a month (and persistant calls) we received a replacement unit. The replacement unit was an even BIGGER piece of crap than the first. So, we called again and were AGAIN told to send in the defective unit to Thomson for an exchange. Well, now almost two months later (and about 40 dollars worth of shipping), we are being told they no longer make the unit and that we will be issued a refund withint 6 to 8 weeks from receiving the receipt. But after hearing so many bad stories such as yours I even wonder if we will get a refund??? This just makes me sick. Isn't there something someone can do?
