Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I first contacted Eric in July of 2011. I should've known what a loser he was when he never showed up for our first meeting, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt and I rescheduled for later that week. When we did finally get together, I talked with him about my ideas for some custom woodwork and lighting. He gave me an estimate and told me that he would not be available to begin for a few weeks and that the whole job should only take about 2 or 3 days. He wrote up an estimate, I accepted, signed a contract and paid a deposit.

About a month later, he came by to begin the project. He retook some measurements that he had taken at our first meeting and left. (This was his typical pattern. He would come by, work for an hour or so then tell me he didn't have some tool or he needed and that he had to go to Home Depot. He would then disappear for a couple of days.) We played phone tag for a while. About a week later he showed up with the mantel and custom cabinets we had hired him to build. The cabinets did not fit and he didn't have all of the parts for the mantle and fireplace surround. I was unhappy with the cabinets and told him that they would not work. He offered to rework them for me , agreeing to install one in another room as a storage cabinet and to put feet and a few other decorative pieces on the other to turn it into a furniture piece that I could then resell the recoup some of the $ we had spent on it.

It is now May 2012 (10 Months Later), and one of those cabinet currently sits unfinished in my shed -- no doors, no shelves, no nothing. The other cabinet was bolted into the wall of my recroom. Like the one in the shed, it also has no doors. When his assistant installed the cabinet in the recroom he cut out part of our baseboard. He over cut and left us with several inches of wall with no baseboard. We showed Eric the problem, he agreed to fix it. Surprise, surprise, he didn't. He also never finished caulking the mantle in the livingroom, despite assuring us that it was a quick fix.

We also had Eric replace our frontdoor and explained that although we didn't want him to reinstall it, we wanted to keep our existing storm door. It appeared that he understood. He took care of ordering the new door and installed it when it came in. However, he never replaced the shoe moulding he removed during the installation and TOOK the storm door with him when he left that afternoon. The door was less than a year old and had cost $300 new. It was worth over $100 used and we had planned on selling it. We called him and asked him to return the door, reminding him that we had asked him to leave it with us. We have never seen Eric or our door again. When we last contacted him about coming by and completing the job he told us that he wouldn't be able to come over because he was on a job and had a deadline to meet....Three months after I hired him to do a job that he told me would take 3 days, he tells me that he can't come by because he has a deadline on another gig! Unbelievable. At this point, we gave up.

We had many confrontations with Eric during the time he was "working" for us, even threatening him with a small claims suit. Unfortunately, we made the mistake of paying him in full before the job was done and have paid some serious stupid tax as a result.  Bottom line: Beware Eric Park! He is a sloppy, lazy, disrespectful, dishonest and undependable bum. He's not a real impressive carpenter either...In the end, we ended up paying him for subpar work, not to mention work he never even did. We will also have to pay a PROFESSIONAL carpenter to fix all of the issues he left behind. Immediately after dealing with him, we really wanted to trash him, but realized quickly that he didn't need us to ruin his business -- he was going to do a bang up job of that on his own.

I dare Eric to post a rebuttal to this report. We have copies of our original paperwork, as well as bank records and pictures of his "work" to back up every word of it. Save yourself a lot of unneccesary trouble and steer clear of Retrimit or any other scam business this bum is running. The Nashville area has too many good carpenters available to waste your time and hard earned money with a phony like Eric Park.

SOME OF WHAT IS SAID IS TRUE

#2REBUTTAL Owner of company

Sun, June 17, 2012

Hi Im Eric the proud owner of Re Trim It, First of all this job took way to long and I take full responsibility for it. My debut for retrimit was the home show and I sold lots of work. I have always been a high-end carpenter with lots of great jobs under my belt but when the show was such a great success i was loaded down with way more work than I could do. I went about hiring guys that claimed to be great carpenters but one after another they did crazy things such as cutting the baseboard to short as claimed here and missing day after day. Finding good help has been a battle for me. For ever mistake they made and for every day they missed I got set back. It was painful for some of my customers and painful for me also. The cabinets that Alexa claims didnt work were too large once installed. In our design process we discussed size and them looking overwhelming at length. We were covering a existing brick fireplace wall and it designated the parameters. The approved agreement had the sizes of those cabinets specified. When I came to install them they were to consuming for the room they were in although they were built to the specs agreed upon. The customer agreed that it wasnt my fault and cut me a check that day while she contemplated what to do. The customer offered me those two cabinets as there really wasnt a very good place for them in her home. I had no use for them and suggested we cut them down and modify them to work somewhere else.

This again really messed up my time schedule and at my expense. At this point through all of this the customer decided to have me give her a price on a new mahogoney front door.I gave her a price she had me order and install the door. Like she says she has records to prove this. She like she stated had already had words with me over my time frame but she was very happy with my work quality despite the setbacks and had me do the work and install the front door.

I installed the door and it worked great but I couldnt finish the job and install the sweep because the bottom of the door wasnt sealed. They had there own painter and they came to stain it but messed it up and had to sand and restain it. When I came to put the threshold on and pulled the door the painter hadnt sealed the bottom of the door still  so I had to reinstall the door and come back again to install the sweep again at my expense and at my loss for time. Had I not been a concerned Installer I would have installed the sweep without sealing the bottom of the door. Yes more money in my pocket but the manufacturer requires the door to be sealed. I chose do the job correctly at my expense.

The customer did state that she wanted to save the storm door and I did my best to keep it in good shape as I uninstalled it but as you can understand the door had been caulked and been installed poorly to begin with and when we removed it the frame was damaged and reinstalling it was no longer an option.

As to disappearing Ive done no such thing. The last contact made was by me. I was in her driveway to install the shoe mold for the front door and no one was home. I called and left a message and never heard from her again and that was last October. Like she said she gave up on me not me on the project. I still have and use the same phone # Ive had all along and my website is not down it is being redone and updated and will be up new and better very soon.

There is still a balance of $300 on the agreement plus the cost for upgrading her cabinet but like she said she gave up on me not me on this project. I was never paid in full on this project.

At this point I want to sum up this experience.

The job took to long but for several reasons and not all of them mine. The customer was extremely happy with my completed work as she added the new front door installation well into the project.   Ask yourself this. If things were as horrible as she now states would you add more projects on like the front door.

The last time I saw the two of them I installed the treshold for the front door and as I was leaving they were both smiling telling me how great things looked.

I made mistakes on this job and on others too but i have been dedicated and diligent to making my customers happy on the projects they have hired me to do. Some things are in my control and some things are not.

To this customer that dared me not to rebut... bring out your contracts and your checks because they will prove like I said that through all the pain you say i put you through you hired me to do another major project. Your front door with emtek hardware and rollerball hinges all proudly installed and reccommened by me.. I would gladly show any of my customers the work I did in your living room, the mantle, the door headers, the crown and the can lights. Its by far the nicest room in your house and yes proudly designed and installed by me. You designed the cabinets that didnt and dont work and are at the heart of your dissatisfaction not me.

Today I can give you a list of many happy customers. I am  very hard working capable designer and carpenter with goals and dreams. I often get referral work and call backs from prior customers. I am 100% dedicated to customer satisfaction and If you let me design and build your project you will be happy you called me.

Sincerely, Eric Park

I tried to add picture of Alexas living room but the site wont let me
