I lived at these apartments for a year, worst year I have ever had at an apartment complex. Moving in was ridiculous. They had parking permits and they wouldn't give you one until you filled out the lease previous damage assessment. And they would tow you if you didn't get your permit. Parking was terrible anyways, useless to have a permit. And they wouldn't let you see the apartment before signing the lease..... suspicious? I think so, I wish I thought so then. I saw an actual apartment so I wasn't too worried... it was nice and new. They said they renovated the whole apartment. THAT WAS A LIE! Furniture was so old, I have asthma and am bad with dust, I couldn't use the couch. Kitchen was old and just looked worn down. Washer and Dryer units had mold going behind them. Basically.... just bad bad bad.
If something broke from normal wear and tear, you had to pay for it. I mean anything. Washer, dryer, microwave... Our microwave was broken before we moved in (a friend and I) and we reported it only to have to pay for a new one. Told us we were liars and if we didn't pay for it we would be charged in extra 100 dollars for a late fee.
Power was ridiculous. $150 was included in the rent and we had to pay for whatever overage we happened to get. So, 4 people in an apartment, each paying on average 200 for power. That's $800 for power? I don't think that is even possible. We were told they couldn't release the information...... For those that don't live in FL, I pay about 300 on average now (and that's with 3 people constatly using power WAY more than we did at riverwind).
And then... the horrible nightmare of moving out. Here is where it gets worse. Worse you say? I know, how could it get worse? Well. I left my room in better shape then I got it in. Only thing I couldn't fix was a few scratchs on the dresser from my TV.... I actually got charged not only for those... but for the carpet being dirty, the bathroom being very dirty and moldy (I actually went to the trouble of re-caulking it for them... that's how through I was... and they have the nerve to say it was dirty?) And the couch had to be replaced and we were to pay for it. No duh it had to be replaced, but making us pay for it? I want to go see the state of the apartment now. I can bet you that they did nothing with it. I would bet a lot that that slime of a manager is keeping the money for herself.
Basically, I owe them $358 dollars. Definitely didn't get my security deposit back. I have never been more upset. I am a college student (and way too optimistic to have let all this happen) and I cannot afford that 300 extra dollars. I work part time making $7 an hour... and they expect me to pay that plus my normal expenses... I even moved out early and I still was charged for the overage of power... this apartment was the worst experience I've ever had.
So all I can say to you now, is learn from my stupid stupid stupid mistakes and...
DO NOT MOVE TO RIVERWIND!!!!!!!!!!!!!
