The consultant I talked to at RJM first thing this morning was not helpful however, once I got the supervisor on the phone it seemed to be smooth sailing. The fingerhut account (which I found out was in my maiden name) was actually opened in 11/1997 from an address I had moved from in 5/1997. Talk about identity theft before anyone knew what it was! Although payments were made in 1998, the account was never paid off. The fact that I knew nothing of the account and what had transpired was obvious to the supervisor who assured me he would take care of it and promised to have the account and status DELETED from my credit reports. I am told that getting it deleted could take 45-60 days, but since I also disputed it on my credit reports I am hoping that when the reporting agencies get back to me in 30 days, it will already be "deleted". So for those of you facing the same/similiar situation, I recommend 1) dispute the claim on your credit report electronically and 2) speak to a RJM supervisor requesting for the claim to be "deleted" and 3) follow up with the credit reporting agency until claim(s) removed. Thanks RJM and RipoffReport.com.
