For the last 7-8 years I get a call from a new rep from Robert Half downtown Dallas. Since I was close by, I didn't mind going over for an "interview". They always say the same thing: the job was either filled or withdrawn. You'll get a call from a different rep every 3-4 months. That's how long they work at Robert Half without receiving any commissions. With that said, I have a gal that used to work for them and is now a bartender. They call you in, strap you to a chair an interrogate you about references, companies you worked for, etc. They are fishing for new leads to cold-call. In most cases, RH doesn't even have a formal relationship with these companies. The reps simply scan direct-hiring companies' websites for openings and flood them with an array of resumes trying to get a "bite". This rarely happens. I've been in this industry for nearly 30 years and have many contacts. Not once have I heard a hiring manager bringing in a candidate from RH, nor has any of my colleagues ever landed a job through RH. When they call these days, I tell the rep he'll be out in 90 days and if he wants me to come by, I'll ask him how much is he going to pay me, because I'm scary expensive. Btw: Don't ever give out your former boss' number or a coworker's number to RH. They will hound them to the ends of the earth trying to drum up new business.

Robert Half - same story in Raleigh NC

For the past 5 years I often get a call from Robert Half and as always it's the same story once I send them my 'updated resume'. "We'll get back to you" and they never do. 6 months ago I got a call from Anthony who said he had an 'immediate hire' and would I be interested in this position. Being unemployed for a year at that time, I was looking to take anything I could find at the time so without hesitation I said 'yes.'

After I completed all their required paperwork, I never heard from them again for two weeks. I put in a call and after numerous phone transfers, finally got Anthony on the line who promptly told me: 'We are still qualifying candidates and if you are a match, we'll be in touch." Can you believe the gall of that guy?

I was thoroughly disappointed at this rebuff and wrote them off until 2 months later, who should call back, but another rep saying he 'got my information from Anthony and would I like to come in for an interview about a position with an "immediate need." Not only did I refuse them at this point, but wasn't surprised when he tried to ask 'who do you know who is hiring at the moment? We offer referral bonuses too.' I wasn't so gullable that time and have since warned others not to do any business with them. I only know of one individual who was referred by them, I interviewed him at a past employer and I should have known from how under-skilled he really was as to the caliber of IT talent they try to pass off.
