My friend above that says his "old way of doing business" and "he makes more money than his wife" must lack customer service and be over worked. Your old way of doing plumbing is unfortunately what the consumer has in there mind of a self employed, incompetent, dirty, unreliable, inconsistent pricing low class person with no awareness of running a professional business. Your old way of doing plumbing provides nothing but money in your pocket, sore knees, and some ego edge over your wife's salary.
The "new way of doing business" provides a great improvement to the industry, the economy, and most importantly the customer. We provide jobs for people, train them to be professional and have pride in them selves. We provide them with a normal life something that you may not understand because you work by yourself. We give our employees health benefits, dental, 401k, vacation time, sick time, personal time, technical and customer service training etc.
How many people can you service in a day? If its a lot the quality must reflect your low pricing and you must be worn out. Value and quality = Price. Do you give your customer an upfront price with options? Do you respect the customers home with booties and floor protection? Do you give a free plumbing inspection with every service call? Do you clean up after your self? Is your appearance neat and clean? Are you in a professional uniform? Do you answer your phone 24-7 with some one always on call for the customer? And how's your old truck that's leaking oil on the customers drive way? It must be nice to have your customers meet you at your house/place of business to drop off a payment or schedule service. You provide for no one but yourself. You couldn't provide if you had to your pricing tells us that, ***and It would be safe to assume that your under your wife's' health insurance.***
If you are so on the ball you should be very busy, how do you handle that by yourself? Do you pick and choose your clients or provide to the general public? We don't discriminate by picking & choosing our customers.
Do you have quality time to spend with your family or the wife that you so easily threw under the bus? or are you to busy being self-employed working with no balance in your life. If you do have time, what about your customers that need to be serviced?
Don't be judgemental of the new business owner who knows how to provide a living for others, and provides quality services to the consumer. You should learn from the successful company, if it wasn't for your wife's income you would probably be working for a "the new way of doing business" company. What are you going to do when your 60 and you can't bend your knees?
Your not a business with great value to others, your a person that's self-employed with low overhead and no to low business value to you and others.
I would more than gladly teach you how to run a professional business, I would do it for free just because the consumer deserves more professionals servicing them. Feel free to contact me for any info you may need.

The company gave the the customers wife options over the phone, she chose to have an estimate with a $130 charge credited back towards any work.
She chose to do the work that was needed for a proper up to code job with no hassle, her husband was miserable because he was unable, unqualified and unhappy that he wasted his money on a part that should not even of been sold to him (a GAS connector). Someone that uses a phrase like "bait and switch" so easily against someone else is paranoid. There the ones to watch out for. Quality with options are a good combination.

Plumbing is a business and their are different business models. I like to say there is the "old model" and a "new model".

Obviously you failed to see my point. I am a professional. I am better than a doctor and guess what, I get paid then most. My customers know that. Kuddos to your installation of your equipment. However, you are foolish to claim that experience can be gained by community college. I'd love to curse you out for being so ignorant. Good luck in life buddy. Hopefully you dont die from carbon monoxide for improper installaton.

He actually compares himself with the education and training of a physician. Get real, junior. It takes 10 years and a brilliant mind to achieve md status. Heating and cooling, ha. A couple seasons at the local community college. The electricians test is a joke. Anybody could pass that by chance alone since they're true-false questions. I've installed my own furnace, water heater and ac and let me tell ya, it was no brain surgery projects. Your attitude demonstrates the arrogance of many in that field and shows again the need for comsumer vigilance over ripoff types like yourself who think that going out on a call is doing everyone a big favor. I guess we should all be thankful jr would honor us with his presence and for the priviledge, he can charge any amount he pleases since he's so special and his skills ( ? ) soooo unique.

Had a professional plumber in your home and you think you were ripped off? I use RipOffReport frequently prior to making any large purchase and being in the Plumbing & HVAC profesion my searches today brought me to Plumbing related complaints. Its amazing how most of the complaints or not for letting a disgusting dirty plumber into your homes, but instead of having a PROFESSIONAL come into your home to perform service. In the dozens of complaints I read this evening, not one commented on the appearance of the TECHNICIAN. My guess is that the technician was in a clean uniform. Being a professional commands a higer rate of salary. As a professional Plumbing and HVAC Technician, do I not deserve to live in a nice home, support my family comfortably, and drive luxury cars? I firmly believe I do and the quality of service my company produces commands it as well. I am not a owner, but just a technician. I command a salary similar to doctors and lawyers. I have more education, certification, and training than most lawyers do. I wake up at 3am to give families heat, clear their only toilet of all the waste that clogged, and crawl under homes to make repairs. My company is a flat rate company. It is designed to save the customer money and make the company money. NO COMPANY WANTS TO LOSE MONEY! When I charge $361 to rebuld all the mechanical componets of a toilet, I guarantee that toilet. I will re-appear if god forbid it leaks at 6am. My company gives the price upfront and the customer signs in writing prior to work beginning. We arrive when scheduled and GUARANTEE ALL WORK! I personally performed $450K last year in 49 weeks working an average of 60 hours per week. I am one technician out of 22. All without a single complaint. A large percentage of that revenue goes towards overhead, not compensation for employees. Picture a multi-million dollar company that pays on top of salary, $45K per employee for taxes, insurance, education, training, licensing, etc. So the next time you call a plumber, if you want to nickel and dime call the dirty, unprofessional plumber in the pennysaver. If you want a plumber who is clean, prompt, courteous, and professional expect to pay for such. No, $300 per hour is not excessive. You are insane if you think you can get a price over the phone. Get Home Depot or Lowes to come back if there is a problem. I fix THEIR PROBLEMS! $450 for only 57 minutes? It would take most homewoners an entire weekend something I can do in 10 minutes. If I could pay for more hours in a day I would. Questions, comments, or concerns, please email me directly at: [email protected] GOOD EVENING AMERICA AND GOD BLESS.
